Can't finish "Find X within a parasang of Y" village quests

I must be misunderstanding something because twice now I've had a village of adorable sapient beasts ask me to find a place for them and I can't find it. "Place is within a parasang of Another Place." Here's where I'm checking:

Every dot is a screen. If a parasang is 9 screens I feel like there's no way I can be missing the place they want me to find but somehow I am. What am I doing wrong? The smart pigs and lizards need my help and I can't help them. :(

Check each parasang adjacent of the location. Even if it's more than 3 zones away, it should be be in one of those parasangs.

Well I always took this to mean up to 1 parasang (3 screens) away so I always check 1 extra 'loop' out (the 7x7 one), and that is where I find about half of the locations (and as the outer 'loop' is 24 screens out of 44 total that is somewhat expected).

If you think about the screen transitions it only goes over 1 parasang right at the outer edge of the 3rd screen away (since the central screen is the base location) so these are still within a parasang of the central location

Went back, started checking further out, got insanely frustrated by canyon navigation problems and trash snapjaws, gave up, went to world map, instantly got lost... instantly placed at the sought location. I don't know how many screens away it was but it was in the parasang above the given location on the world map. Expecting you to check 44 screens for a location is extremely cruel IMO. Well, at least I finally got my bio-scanning bracelet and the pigs are happy. Thanks.

Wouldn't need to ask you to find it if they knew more precisely where it was.
