Most likely it isn't worth it.

other thoughts: this eigenrifle sure drains chem cells in a hurry. this is like the hummer of arm cannons

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it pierces through everything. old news I'm sure, I've never used it before though

The consensus is that Tinker 3 is a bit of a luxury skill; if you're like me and you like getting ultra-high INT so as to stack on lots of skills, it's something you can get. It's also an obvious grab for role-playing a dedicated Tinker or Artifex.

Practically speaking though, it won't actually get you much.

The Eigenrifle's energy drain actually isn't that bad, compared to various other applications. If you're close to the surface you can just use solar cells, if you're often using recoilers (or close to towns), you can always just get them recharged at a tinker's. And you can recharge them yourself if you have the bits for it.

I like solar cells, though they're obviously poorly suited to deep delving.

believe I'll be using a solar eigenrifle to give things on the surface a bad time, and maybe switch to a carbine below ground.

Well, if you decide to get the Tinkerer III in the end, you might aim at making yourself a Nuclear or even Antimatter Cell. Those hold a lot more power than the standard ones: Solar Cell holds 2500 units of power, Chem one 10k, Nuclear one 100k and the Antimatter cell holds 250k units of power.

One shot from an Eigenrifle costs 150 units, so one of those bigger bad boys should last you for a full, long voyage into any dungeon.

saving up the 300 SP as we speak

Eigenrifle can fire ~20-30 shots from fully charged chemical cell, actually I think eigenrifle consume less then any other energy weapon.
I just scum it on start and enjoy the game. ))

would've had more time to figure it out myself if I hadn't just caught a throwing axe to the face. RIP Tinkerhorse V

Get eigenrifle right in Joppa - skip the boring part!

I can only justify Wishing myself a glowsphere + desert rifle. I'm a purist. :p

Eigen Rifle uses 150 units of power, as opposed to 100 per shot for Laser Pistol/Rifle. Stun Rod uses 10 per stunning hit and Recoiler 2500 per activation.

Yeah, as others have said, eigenrifles don't consume much energy (I think Electrobows consume less?)

If it's a problem, you should consider learning tinkering I so you can recharge batteries yourself. You should also avoid wasting shots on weaker enemies, which can just be killed in melee.
