Other mutation games?
Caves of Qud is the ONLY video game I know of that lets you customize a mutant with variable biological powers. Are there any others? Not sure is spore counts.

With a bit of thinking, I've thought of Prey and Prototype. Any other ideas?

That new game Biomutant is most likely coming out this year.

Nuclear Throne.

And I'm only half-serious, but... when you think about it, E.V.O. was all about getting various physical mutations.

But oddly enough, it's true, off the top of my head I can't think of any other games where progression was tied to mutations, and you'd think there would be a lot of them out there. But no, I can think of a bunch where improvements are technological but none where they're biological.

I've played nuclear throne, you unlock characters and pick up weapons, but there is no mutation customization.

What about cyber augs? Deus Ex comes to mind. I'm sure there are a lot, which ones are worth playing?

I never got huge into it, but I seem to recall Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead having both cybernetic implants and mutations you can get. It works a bit differently from Qud though (it is a great, but very complicated game even in terms of roguelikes). You can be anything from a grade schooler, to a drug addict, to a priest (with several faiths present including a Catholic priest, a Rabbi, and even an Imam), or even a cyborg super soldier.

It also has a -very- detailed and robust crafting system, allowing you to build anything from a simple molotov cocktail, to your own custom death bus to plow your way through the apocalypse.

The game is a turn based roguelike survival game (which in itself is a pretty small sub genre). You don't really have a goal outside of general survival, the map randomly generates entire towns.

I would advise downloading the beta launcher for the game, it gets very regular updates compared to just the basic .exe file.

Mutations are how you level up in Nuclear Throne. You can get things like additional legs, short-range radiation, longer arms to increase your melee reach, a second stomach to increase the effects of things you ingest, eagle eyes for better weapon accuracy, rhinolike skin, that sort of thing.

Lots of games where upgrades are technology-based, from Mega Man to vehicle-based games like FTL or Ironcast, and obviously if you're into roguelikes Cogmind is all about switching to new tech setups all the time.

Oh right, were those the rewards at the end of a level?

If we're still talking about Nuclear Throne, you get to choose a mutation whenever you get enough rads to gain a level and pass through a portal, meaning it happens quite frequently and you're likely to get your first one in 30 seconds to a minute.

You can normally get 8 mutations plus one ultra mutation about 15 or 20 minutes into a run. It's a very fast-paced game and runs tend to be short, though once you're good you can get "trapped" in 2-hour runs.

It's odd because it's not at all my usual type of game, but I love it. Played well over 400 hours on it and even bothered to get the achievements.

Risk of Rain is a roguelite that has a random mutation-esque progression each game.

You can also check Axu currently in alpha free at itch. Roguelike inspired from Qud

HellMOO is pretty similiar to Caves of Qud with mutations, as being able to pick one on level up. Just a lot more autism in everything.
