Rifles vs Pistols
My last game I used rifles exlcusively until the end of the mid-game before resorting to melee, with the eigenrifle serving me very well. Are pistols able to hold their own against rifles?

Depends.
Concerning the range and the agility-boost-skill? Nope.
But you can dualwield them (or pistol and melee weapon) and unleash different types of ammo at once. A boost to firing speed and voilà: You have a very versatile and deadly gunslinger. A Machinegun-Tommy in persona.

Yeah, I inclined to go with a high agi build (again) so I guess I'll stick with rifles. Thanks!

You can achieve a freakishly high rate of fire with pistols, unfortunately there are none with a high PV so they eventually become quite bad.

At least if you go rifles you have the eigenrifle (12) and, eventually, the phase cannon (16).

From my understanding, the things that make pistols amazing is a combination of high rate of fire, crit rate bonus, and a passive chance to disarm.

Critical hits pass through AV so the weapons to use are dual chain pistols with as much firing speed as possible to create a hail of weapon removing, AV penetration death.

From https://steamcommunity.com/app/333640/discussions/0/1696045708660229096/, a ranged critical hit does not automatically pass through AV, but only adds +2 or +4 PV :(
