How does desecrate/pray to a shrine work?

Does anyone have any details about how this option works?

What happens if you do it? I've tried, but nothing immediately apparent happens.

Might just be potential actions required to complete randomly generated quests. Could also just be they aren't fully implemented yet. I would imagine praying and desecrating shrines would affect certain faction rep, but for now seems only for roleplay purposes. I think there ought to be an option to cleanse desecrated shrines as well.

I would be willing to bank money that it just isn't implemented yet, we're supposed to get one or two more big patches that are centered around the sultan quests and lore according to the Beta Roadmap.

is it possible that there will be some kind of deity system that involves prayer implemented in the future, something like crawl has? I mean, i'm not sure how it would work in Qud, but getting skills or buffs or something from praying, or gaining favor with deities to redeem for something special could be neat. or like if you had a random quest that involved desecrating a shrine and after you completed it you lost favor with the deity and had to deal with the fallout of your action.

The Sultans may have been powerful people, but even during their lives, they didn't have the ability to sense people praying at their statues, much less the ability to give gifts or power to those people. Now that they're dead, they have no power save what things the descendants of their followers do.

If there is some system tied to praying at and desecrating statues, it would be purely reputation-based.

The only being in Caves of Qud that more or less matches the definition of a "deity" is Ptoh and apparently that one is an evil ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I strongly doubt there will ever be a deity system, and I'm quite happy about it.

Pray/desecrate them does nothing afik. Once i got a quest to desecrate one shrine, that was the only case when desecrate had a meaning. It still did nothing but it was the quest objective.
