Is a flamethrower effective against Haggabah, Who Plies the Umbral Path?
In my current game I've reached Bethesda Susa but ran out of useful grenades prior to fighting Haggabah, and so ran away once he began wailing on me. I started looking through ruins/merchants for night vision goggles and other things I could use to make the fight easier, and came across a flamethrower.

Will using that against him set him alight in a way where he'd be much easier to target with a rifle, or otherwise hit?

He might smoke while burning? Never tried it.

He isn't all that hard to hit, though.

If you move away from him such that you know what general direction he is in (force him to splash across the pool, for example) you can reduce the possible squares he might attack you from to at most three.

you can then stand still and attack into those squares (using ctrl-arrow, for example) one at a time until you connect with him. even if your attack misses, it should indicate that if you got the right square. Then you just pound on him.

Of course, if you're a ranged build, you might not be able to stand toe-to-toe with him. I think you can mark him, though. Not sure if that was ever patched out.

according to one of the guides, you can also use the Jump skill to locate him (he will be an illegal jump location)

His movement through the convalescence is revealed by particle effects. For my preferred gunslinger build, he's by far the easiest of the three troll bosses to kill. Fire chainpistols in his general direction and you'll almost always score hits. Once he gets to melee range, he actually becomes quite squishy, especially because he prefers to stay within the convalescence once he's taken damage. Position yourself so that there's only one tile of convalescence adjacent to you, and he's very easy to pin down.

If you're using a single-attack rifle, switch to a carbine or a chaingun for this encounter. and for your next build I'd recommend giving pistols a chance instead of rifles- IMO they're actually the better ranged option.

Setting Haggabah on fire will not show any indication of burning/smoke, but will generate light.
