I feel like wings are OP.
On my most recent run of a True Kin melee build I ended up finding the mechanical wings near Joppa, and I feel like it ruined the game a little for me. By flying you can avoid the attacks of most enemies early game, bar maybe birds or the dragonfly enemies. This meant that I had the choice of trying to kill things with my sword and risking my death, or simply just flying and shooting things like Equimax, Slumberlings, Goatfolk, etc without any risk of taking damage while getting a load of exp. The worst offender, however, was that dromad caravans had 0 way of fighting back against me while I murdered them for all of their really expensive goods and water. My issue with this is that in this situation I didn't have to take a single risk to gain as much as I did. Conversely, if I had gone in with my sword I assure you my ass would have been handed to me multiple times over.

I realize that this cannot happen in caves as you can't fly in them, but there is just too much stuff that you can cheese on the overworld for me to consider wings balanced in any way.

I think a way for this to be remedied, at minimum, would be for the devs to give caravans a long ranged form of attack to hit winged characters, or to simply make it so that melee attacks are just more likely to miss on a winged character rather than not hit at all. I REALLY like this game so far, but wings just feel like a bit of an oversight at the moment.

In other words: As per the usual, you can cheese a lot out of Qud - but only within limits. The limits of wing usefulness is the overworld, and the overworld doesn't really contain all that much. The meat of the game is in the caves.

That said, caravan guards really should have some guns.

With the wings mutation you always have a chance of falling to the ground, and then you have to fight on the ground and wait for the cooldown. But for some reason you can just fly forever with mechanical wings. Having the chance of falling for the mechanical would probably make more sense, and prevent too much cheesing.

Mechanical wings used to have a chance of falling... I think that right now they're bugged as it really doesn't make sense balancewise to be able to use them with no risk of falling and no cooldown, especially since this makes them just a better, fuelless version of the gyrocopter backpack afaik
