Endless dungeon.....how can I get out?
Just started playing and innocently wandered into what I thought would be a newbie dungeon, the one that starts in the corner of Joppa.

I'm utterly lost. For hours and hours. I'll explore entire areas, reaching level 1 hoping for that final staircase up, only to realize the entire network was a dead end and have to backtrack ages to try and find some other way out. I'd restart the game, but I've somehow survived this long, made it to level 11 and gotten emotionally attached to my poor lost bastard of a wanderer.

Does anyone have ANY tips to offer on how to get out? Is there any logic or pattern to how level exits are generated or anything? I'm genuinely thinking I'll never find my way out.

Ow. Well, I have some bad news, if you've been turned around like that, there's no real easy way to get back to the surface.
There's also no guarentee you'll make it back directly to Joppa.

THe good news, you're much higher level now, so you should be fine for the moment.
Just don't go down past floor 5 or so.

Don't listen to David, go down.

Go all the way down.

Encounter marvelous critters.

Find wondrous artifacts.

Maybe even a recoiler that would take you back to the surface.

But that's not where you're going.

Delve deep, breathe the breath of the gods, and die.

Well, I mean, he could do that.

That isn't a newbie dungeon. It's a short cut to the depths, for crazy people who know about it. Did you stumble on it or did you hear about it?

I stumbled upon this, at the tiny pond in the NW corner of joppa. Well, I guess I'm going to just have to keep exploring and see what happens!

Bit of advice for next time:

pay attention to the name of the zone.

Directly below Joppa it's the waterlogged tunel. It is low lvl-ish and a useful shortcut for la certain starter quest.
But it's also limited in size (as in how many screen it cover per depht lvl) and in depth (as in keep going down and you will reach the infamous Underground par).

For now, you should do as the other ppl say, keep going down and enjoy the ride ^^

If the OP doesn't want to keep descending until they die, they can always cheat.

Go into the options menu, look for the keybinding for "wish" (by default it is unassigned), and assign it.

Then you can wish for a recoiler or something.

Guidelines on using the wish command: https://freehold.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CQP/pages/46235649/Wishes#suk=

You can also wish for "stairs up" and "stairs down". Occasionally when you go down a level the game won't generate a staircase back up, so this is one of the debug commands you can occasionally use without having to consider yourself a cheater.

You don't even have to wish for those. There are actually keybinds for directly moving up or down a floor. They were especially useful back in the days where entire surface zones would be blank.
