There are 2 checks, are pacifying one and an allying one. Naturally, the allying one is harder.
If you want chromelings, you basically just need to level up and whatever. If you're really dedicated you can have builds that pump Ego or whatever, but that's a more specific thing than it sounds like you're going for.
Otherwise, there's a cybernetic that you can sometimes find which might interest you. The Communications Interlock raises your effective level for Rebuke Robot by 5, and it can be equipped on any slot. Theoretically you could get a level up to something ridiculous like 60 if you filled all the slots, probably enough to Rebuke a Stalker.
