How to sustain ammo?
Let's say you want to go for bows or muskets straight from the start, you buy all the ammo from your village bro, and then what? Haven't played in a while and just returned. I'm not sure if the ammo replenishes, but if it does, it's not that fast. I remember there being a lot of ammo at the 6 day stilt but still, would run out eventually no? And an energy gun might take a while to find/make. What are your tricks guys? Or just only play stabby guys?

It sounds wasteful to learn tinker skill just for ammo supply of the early game, but eventually you may have to customize your guns, so I think investing for tinker skill is not a bad choice. In the early game survival/defense skill would be more important, though.

I like to play mutant gunslingers with psychometry. It pretty much guarantees you get the ammo recipes and you can mow down enemies with nearly infinite ammo from the start of the game. You still need atleast the tinker 1 skill to even memorise it and probably want atleast the disassembly skill for materials, but you dont need to invest into tinkering any more points than that.

A mutant with psychometry + tinker background is really good at a lot of things, one of which is making ammo (50 slugs for 1 D bit, you can also make 5 shotgun shells at the same price which is nowhere near as efficient but still an option. Shotguns can be really handy for crowd control), and you get to start with tinker 1 and disassemble (scavenger is also a great pickup if you're going to do this).

The downside is you don't get to start with the weapon skills you would with say, a marauder or gunslinger background, though a tinker with enough strength (like, 20 to 21 base strength, for example), can definitely hold its own in a fight, especially with something like multiple arms.

Meanwhile I just go to ruins and kill turrets. They drop hundreds of lead slugs.

I don't have much of a problem keeping ammo. Dual wielding pistols, I buy up the ammo in the start town and generally start coming across gun turrets before I need more. Gun turrets can drop as many as 1k bullets when killed.

Hint: there is now a cooking ingredient that gives psychometry.

They psychometry start seems too forced to me, sure it's fun once or twice but it seems hard to combine it with other fun things. Thanks for the info on turrets! This definitely wasn't the case when I last played and it fixes the issue for me ^^ Also the cooking thing is veeery neat xD

Vendors restock. Many of them have huge ammo stockpiles. Between Joppa, Stilt, and Grit Gate there will be a ton of all sorts of ammo.

Then you will have random caravans and legendary merchants / smiths all over the map, and merchants in random villages.

You shouldn't have any trouble, even without crafting.
