How do I fill a waterskin with a liquid?

See title. Can't find the answer to this anywhere.

Stand in the liquid and press (G) or (Space), which are the default keys.
I don't actually know how or if you even can collect a liquid from next to it.

Thank you so much! Do you know how I check the status of my thirst as well? I only know when I'm thirsty when I start taking damage.

I wonder if this mechanic was changed over the last years. I'm a new player and I can not for the life of me figure out how to obtain liquids other than fresh water. I need some gel to cure the glowcrust, I found a gel weep, but I can not get any gel in any of my empty containers.

Stand next to the liquid and press Control + Space. Or Control + Space + NumpadDirection if there's more than one thing nearby and that's what you want to interact with.

Also, once you have a liquid you can rightclick on the container and set it to autofill itself with any of that particular liquid nearby. I use that for oil to catch any that leaks from robots and whatnot.

This only works with pure liquids, but sometimes liquids spawn on ground without being made salty or briny. Autofill usually won't cause one to overload and encumber unless it's a lot of fresh water.
