Was the Alchemist detonating the Neutron Flux whem he dies nerfed?

Because I just walked into his room, and somehow he just instantly died from a group of hostile Chromlings of all things, because apparently he detonated the neutron flux right off the bat, and all I saw was a 3x3 explosion area flash up and go, and scanning through the message log, it showed that both the Alchemist and the Chromling were crushed under the weight of a thousand suns for around 370 damage.
That seems a bit less than I thought it would be.
Like, possible to survive levels of damage. :P

I thought the radius was massive as well. Like Hand-e-Nuke big, if not bigger.
