Multiple arms + Dual wielding
Yo, I see that when I buy dual wielding for 300sp, my chance to hit with any off hand attack goes to 35%. Right now, I have multiple arms that have an 8% chance to attack, but I can upgrade multiple arms with a mutation point to make their chance to 10%. If I spend points to buff multiple arms to 10% or 12% chance, will those points be wasted if I buy the skill that takes it to 35%? This seems like it could be a very powerful build, but I want to know if directing points into upgrading the mutation will do anything.

Anything else I should know about multiple amrs builds? Should I use a shield as well?

Dual wield only accounts for your Left hand, the multiple arms mutation is what gives your left (2) and right(2) hands a percentage to strike. Flurry skill strikes with all four arms.

I personally like getting shields because an arm worn buckler can make use of every skill but Shield Wall. If you don't go down the dual wield route and wield 4 battleaxes then I'd say use a real shield in your left hand with 3 battleaxes -or- a two-handed axe, two battleaxes, and a buckler on your arm.

One of my favored builds uses multi-arm + axes because each axe swing has the potential to dismember, and backswing also gives your multi-arm misses a second chance as far as I know.

Okay, I'll upgrade multi arms then.

What's the default chance of a normal off hand striking? Zero? 8%?

Is dual wielding worth it?

Normal off-hand base is 15% last I read somewhere. Spending 300 points will increase that chance and give you a flurry ability. Flurry hits with all arms which makes it fun, you can yell "ALPHA STRIKE" every time you use it.

Thank you.

Huh, good thread.
So, Backswing - from a Cudgel tree - also affcet those arms?

The biggest benefit of Multiple Arms is gaining extra equipment slots. Sure, the AV and DV of your two sets of gloves gets averaged... but any resistances such as Heat/Cold are ADDED. Getting 100% heat/cold immunity without putting multiple Rapid Advancements on Carapace more or less requires the Multiple Arms/Multiple Legs/Two Headed mutations.

Same goes for gloves that grant agility bonuses, damage reflection, etc. Don't forget that many tools and items fit on the Arm slot as well, such as Force Bracelets.

With all that out of the way, if you insist on using Multiple Arms for melee damage, I would have to recommend aiming for one of the below builds:

Decapitate-Crit-Fishing: One handed masterwork serrated axes in each of four hands. Crits automatically hit and penetrate, and have a chance to dismember, which has a chance to decapitate. Actual damage and penetration is irrelevant against late game enemies, so go around neutering Chrome pyramids with Bronze Battle Axes if you like. Requires Decapitate in the Axe skill tree.

Natural Attack/Multi Attack Fishing: Two daggers in the first two hands. Dagger skills that increase attack speed and attack chance. Mutations such as Stinger and Horns. Put whatever you like in the secondary hands. Alternatively, make Horns the primary weapon instead of the right hand, as it counts as a Short Blade.

Vibro-Man: Find a Ceremonial Vibrothingy, then either find copies or use Polygel on it until you have four. Make them masterwork and serrated. Benefits from Decapitate from the axe skill tree, as well Long Blade skills. Is similar to the axe build above, except it is worse at decapitating in exchange for being better at killing things that are immune to decapitation.

Ape Man: Find the Fist of the Ape. Make copies if you can. Destroy your enemies along with the walls. Requires going all in on Strength and Cudgels. Consider pumping all mutation Advancements into Double Muscled.

MinMAXitaur: Primary Weapon: Horns (counts as Short Blade). Left Hand: any Long Blade. Right Hand: any Axe. Left Hand(2): any Cudgel. Right Hand(2) any Shield. Simply by swapping which hand (or head) is the primary weapon, you can alter your fighting stance and available abilities without needing to unequip or re-equip anything. Requires heavy skill point investment into all 6 weapon skill trees (4+shield+dual wield=6).

I love how you named MinMAXitaur.

I could be wrong, but I think the beta changes to Regeneration may mean that chrome pyramids are decapitate-immune going forward.

At the very least, they'll be much harder to decap with all their limbs popping back on almost instantly.

Well, thanks for builds, but I started already as 4 legged/handed 2 headed, and also founded in Joppa chests Helping Hands.
So axes came naturally as decision.

Also, why Dismember form axes works for Vibrokhopeshes? Are the axes? Are they long blades?
They are the best digging tool btw.

If that actually does work I'd assume because decapitate works with dismembering in general and not specifically axes, hence the serrated mod.

Ah, I see.
