Wax flap - how to get rid of this ailment

I have eaten the slug as adviced and used spray bottle to pour appropriate substance on me. This does not seem to help. Please advice

are you spraying from the bottle (using "apply"), or just pouring?

You need to find the 'waxflab' item in your inventory )or whichever fungal infection you want to peel away) after you press 'a'pply, and choose that as the item to apply to.
