This depends on a few factors. TERA is based on lore for the game, so the Elin have 4 ears.

In most VN's or the like, usually its two. But there's no real way to know in some cases because the girls hair is usually long to cover their head, so we can't see if there are human ears.

In some other artworks though, like that one of Tsubaki (I believe that was her name, she's from Pure Pure) in the post above mine, their ears come from where human ears would be. So, its really dependent on artist and other factors..

Real nekos have 2 ears. Humans cosplaying nekos have 4.

So if your catgirl has 4 ears, she's really just a human wearing cat ears. Their tails are most likely fake also if they even have a tail.

They have two ears, on top of their head. If you look at a cat girl skull, the top area is more like a cat's skull for this reason. If you look at where human ears would be, you just see the end of the jaw line, and then hair growing immediately above that where the ear would be. This is why catgirl hairstyles always cover that region, because there is hair actually growing out of there.

- Chen: 2 ears, only cat ears
- Rin Kaenbyou: 4 ears, human+cat ears.

Both are canonically catgirls (well, youkais). IMHO, I like both types :)

Thankfully this game seems to go with just two ears, two cat ears, i find the ones with two pairs, human+cat to just be freaking weird, unless its supposed to be a person in a cat costume, obvisouly, then its ok, otherwise? Like i said, just freaking weird, possibly even uncanny valley for me, but i could be wrong about that since its so rare for me to get that feeling, sometimes im not sure if thats what im actually feeling.
