It's a kinetic novel, so no, there are no choices.

And no, theres are visual novels (non-kinetic) with choices.
They are different in that there are different routes and choices (with the ones that offer such)

I played for 2 hours expecting a choice to come along :'(

I've been expecting the same as well. This is my first VN and thought the point of having it as an interactive 'game' was to have some choices, even if just some here and there. Ah well. It's still rather nice, but I think I might prefer a manga if there is no interactiton. Here it seems kinda like something between a manga and an anime. Hmmm, maybe it's like an anime for those that don't have a budget to do a full anime produced. I know if I wrote something, I wouldn't be able to make a full animation of it. Well it's still not bad, just not what I was expecting.

Kinetic novels are those without any routes or decision points. And there are quite a few good ones on the market. Planetarian I know is pretty good.

If you want something for choices, you can look into Ever17 (no sex btw, not even nude, but it is a great visual novel), Wanko to Kurasou, Clannad, Air, Kanon, The Sagara Family, Shuffle!, among many others...

And I just realized after I posted that this is a necro'd thread...

/me needs to read more

Thanks, Twin Shadow. Kinetic stories are great. I enjoy a good book or manga. And maybe others that read these more often know which ones are or not, but I didn't see it labled kinetic or anything else to let you know that on the Steam store page. Nor was it labled as the limited all-ages version either. I think that's the only thing that really bothers me. It's not that this is bad at all, but that I wasn't clearly informed up front of what I was getting. Well not like it cost a fortune or anything. And now I'll know more to look for in the future, like the ones you suggested.

I could of sworn I saw it tagged with it at one point.. Oh well. Steam's system of tagging kinda sucks. Or Sekai Project didn't really tag it right..

Anyway, I didn't even find out about the all-age stuff and R18 version until a little after I bought it off Steam. When I noticed the dumb censoring of even the harmless bath scene, that drew the line for me and I started looking for a version to see if it wasn't censored, which only took me about 2 minutes to find.

Basically the way I see things, if its anime stuff on Steam that has two variants, all-age and R18, its a guarantee that on Steam it'll be ... *ahem* "butchered" with censors like it was being aired on TV or something. Drives me nuts sometimes even though nudity is perfectly fine in other games, but in anime.. its like the devil.

Yeah when I looked first it was tagged as Kinetic Novel... but oh well
Squirrelly Aug 23, 2015 @ 6:52pm
Yeah now it's tagged as Dating Sim, but there's no sim to it. But it should be in the official part of the desc / features and not just if you're lucky to have users tag it as such. But I think they don't want to deter people from buying it by having an informed decision.

And exactly, about the nudity and such. Maybe if this story had a lot more bloody violence then they would leave it all in, if base it on other games. Which really has me shaking my head. Why is gutting someone and cutting of their head and pools of blood and dead bodies perfectly fine? But show a bare chest and you've gone over the line! Well unless you've just ripped a beating heart out of it.

They really should censor violence far before they start censoring any nudity or even out right sex. But the violent games make millions of dollars and if they required censoring all of that on Steam they'd lose a lot of money. But censoring nudity and anime stuff doesn't cut into much money, so they don't mind. That's why I refuse to spend any money on anything censored like that, even if I don't care about what was left out or not. I stopped buying manga that was being edited that way until they released uncut versions of it, for example. If everyone stopped paying for hacked up products, they'd stop doing it. But you can't make that choice if you don't know before you buy it.

lol, I actually had to look again to see the Dating Sim, I must of passed it over the first time I looked.

Anywho... until all the soccer moms stop ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ their ears off about nudity and "violence against women" and crap, censors are here to stay. I can only understand them for TV airing, but damn it, give me the original source material when I go to buy a physical copy.

Whether or not this is true remains to be debated, but far as I'm concerned, I still think Valve has a bias against anime. They'll claim that the focus of NekoPara was the sex, so the scenes had to get the boot to be sold on Steam, but even then, HuniePop, SunRider.. both of them are censored. (however, devs over there do provide an un-censor patch for their users - which IMO, is what Sekai should have thought about doing, but oh well)

Basically, Hatred and The Withcer 3.. which of course are far from anime, but there is nudity, and sex (I'm pretty sure TW3 had it, don't believe Hatred did though), and they're totally ok to show on Steam. Though I am aware that Hatred did get the boot off Steam once, but it was put back after quite a heated debate about it.

Now I'm just ranting again..

I'm actually cool with it censored. And I'm a single adult male with out kids. I just want a good romance story when I play a VN.

Since someone was blaiming it on "soccer moms". Plus since everyone things we are all desperate and just want porn. Basically saying I like it when there is a non eroge version option, I don't get why people get bent out of shape when theres the choice to play either version.

Theres a difference between being cool with it being censored and actively wanting censorship though

And people mostly get bent out of shape because the eroge version isn't on steam I think

Let me refrase it then, I like haveing a censored version as an option, and am pro haveing a censored version available. I'm not saying make it so there no non censored version, but to me actively trying to prevent it as even an option is bad too since at least if theres both, you have a choice.

You're probably right though, its mostly since th4ey can't get it on steam, as probably 80% of the ranting I've seen on non adult versions of VN's I've seen in my 10 years of playing them has been on steam. Most I've ran into off of steam don't care too much. To me it seems strange though, it's no harder to get it off of mangagamer then it is steam.

Edit: Not to mention if there are both versions, it means wider demographics and thus more sales and thus we get more VN's in the west, particularly, get more easily available VN's in the west, legally. The only time I really have a complaint is if its done poorly, like if my heart had wings, or if theres no choice, unless the game was all ages to begin with.

Well dunno, I don't really care if censored or not, if uncensroed I can still skip the parts I don't want to see...

And it might not be harder to get it on mangagamer, but then you don't get achievements, steamcards, and it isn't as nicely integrated into steam
