Was Nekopara intended as a 18+ VN?
No, really. It blows my mind thinking that all this time, this was actually an Adult game. And they're making an OVA for this game with the original VAs, that moaned for this game. Does Japan see hentai VAs as normal VAs? I remember one anime I watched that was rated for everyone had 1 VA that voiced in hentais. Or was the hentai just an addition to this game? Or was the hentai actually the full version that came out in Japan so they didn't have to buy the 18+ patch?

Nekopara existed well before the game as 18+ dodjinsi(mangas) and AFAIR all-ages calendar as well. So it was a ComiKet franchise, and i think it was always intended as 18+. Its author/artist Sayori@NekoWorks produces other 18+ materials/games too.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, the cute gals I've seen and loved are nothing more then fap material. I've seen 18+ scenes with the characters as well, and the dialogue is completely stupid.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with fap material :steamhappy:
I was a fan before the game, speaking of which, i still didn't have patience to finish it lol, embarrased ^^ And seeing Chocola in 18+ situations does not make her less cute and loved for me :P

Yeah, 18+ is the original full version.
Well, dodjinsi didn't have a lot of plot, so maybe that transferred to the game as well :/ But there were no cafe and no other girls back then though. In fact the was a third catgirl drawn just a few times that didn't make it into game for some reason - Caramel.

I think OVA is likely gonna be borderline ecchi like KissXSis OVA, but don't quote me on that, i haven't researched that topic a lot. And if yes - that's pretty cool, they almost don't produce hentais with plots nowadays anyway.

Oh, i see you're from US! :hee: Well, there's an abyss of cultural differences between Japan and US, there sexuality is not looked down upon so much, but violence get treated more roughly than in US. And i think that's good. Make love, not war, amirite? :steamhappy:

Well, except it's a requirement to censor all "naughty bits" in Japan, but they have ability to release them uncensored for export, though i don't see that used as often as in 90s-2000s.

In other words, Japan's culture is like a reversed version of our culture.

What do you mean, "intended as"? It just is. To answer your last question, it's not that the 18+ content is tacked on. The original, full version is 18+ to begin with, and the Steam version is censored. You don't have to go to Japan or anything to get it. It's possible to get it from Denpasoft (Sekai Project's 18+ store), dlsite, and NEKO WORKs' own booth.pm site.

Aside from a difference in whether the adult content is censored or not, the two versions work nearly identically, except the full version doesn't use Steam. (And that's one reason I prefer it.) That includes things like being trilingual right from the start and allowing dual text display.

I think it's a shame a lot of people aren't aware of all this.

Regarding the VAs, I don't think there's really an issue with them working on adult content. They are all talented VAs, so it would be stupid not to hire them, as long as they fit the roles. Of course, most of them use aliases. Did you ever notice the names given on the VNs and those on the OVA are different? If not, take a look at this TVTropes character sheet[tvtropes.org]. It shows their (thought to be) real names, along with the alias they used for Nekopara, if any. That's not all. Some of the VAs have quite a few aliases. In particular, Mia Naruse (Azuki) and Yuka Inokuchi (aka Amu Nakamura, Vanilla) each have roughly a dozen aliases in the business. You can see those on VNDB[vndb.org].

Yeah, i see it that way. I think sexuality should be treated normally and not as a religious sin like centuries of Christian culture taught us to.
Why causing pleasures should be prohibited more than causing pain?! Especially since real homicides are illegal but sex is not.
So i think Western culture is the one more f-ed up.

Why take aliases? Afraid they'll get frowned upon?

Something like that, I guess. Despite what I and Ryuu are saying, there still may be some stigma for those working on such content. Well, I don't know just how it all works, though.

Yeah, i don't say it's completely innocent. Also some perverted freaks can still stalk those VAs - be it in Japan or US - personal security is still an issue!

Oh, you mean non-steam versions are limited by language? Ok then. Steam version + 18+ patch = best of both worlds imho = languages, achievements, cards, etc. Good thing they were able to release it here.
And also for those who feel 18+ content feels out of place - they have a version they might enjoy more.

Good point. Even if society doesn't have a problem with it, some individuals have their own issues.

No, no! You misread me! I was saying they work the same, including the fact that they include all three languages. There are only some slight differences in the interface, I think.

It makes sense to have at least 2 aliases - for 18+ works and for regular ones. Dunno why have more really.
