* The visuals in visual novels are normally composed as a background picture with limited character art ("sprites") on top. These are usually static, with changes only for changing characters' poses and facial expressions; however, VNs with an E-mote system, like NEKOPARA, can have fully animated sprites. Most VNs also have occasional fully-drawn pictures, known as "event CGs"; these are always static, probably because it's a lot of work to draw them. These are probably what you referred to as "slide shows", or perhaps someone had the H-scene animations off.
