Can't launch the game with patch
So I recently tried starting up the game after not having played it in a while, but steam just gives me an error message when launching the game:"Cannot convert given narrow string to wide string"
After looking into it I guess other people have had the same problem before, but this is the first time it has ever happened to me and I have through experimentiaon concluded that it does indeed have to do with the Imouto Works patch being installed for the game. I guess their website is down now? What happened here!?

I guess I could just play the denpasoft version of the game, but it seems like a bit of a waste when I already bought the inferior steam version. Does anyone have a fix for this?

Re-install the game and buy the official patch from Denpasoft. Imouto patch is now blocked since it was illegal.

Well that kinda sucks, not so sure how much money I'm willing to spend on this. Thanks anyway!

Did you really do it in that order? How about you try deleting the entire game folder and reinstalling from scratch? If there are any extra files left over from the patch, they might be causing a problem. Steam doesn't touch extra files that happen to be present; it only fixes the ones that are distributed from Steam. Deleting the whole folder ensures there's nothing extraneous present.

I have reinstalled the game and also reinstalled the patch. made to sure replace every file conflicting when transferring files from the patch. I still get the same error

But did you try it without the patch, immediately after wiping it out completely and reinstalling it? That was the point of what I was saying. I think you probably have to give up on using that unofficial patch. Even though you replace everything, in this release there is still at least one file the standalone version doesn't have, and that one file will cause a problem.

At this point, I believe there are two options: 1. Run the standalone, i.e. non-Steam, version. You could still set it up to launch from Steam, by using the "Add a non-Steam game" command, but you won't have any Steam features like achievements, trading cards, etc. 2. Get the official patch, and apply that to the Steam version.

So would you be able to launch the game at all after said nuke ? I ask because I can still launch it & replay the "capture scenes" from the library . Or does it only happen if you actually start a new game altogrther ? Inquiring minds want to know . For "research" of course ...:steammocking:

It's not clear exactly what you're asking. I do know that if there are any incompatible files present, you're likely to get that error message about narrow and wide strings, or an illegal character; it will refuse to run any farther than that. It suggests to me that the two versions use different text encodings, or something.

About the H-scenes (I assume those are what you mean), I've tried something like that before with the full version (not Steam, though the result might be similar for it). Saved during one of the scenes, removed adultsonly.xp3 (which normally makes it fall back to the censored content, and skip the H-scenes), then tried loading it. The result: surprisingly, the scene played, but without any of the adult CGs, voices, sound effects, and such. Just text on a black background, and music. Which makes me wonder if it stores the relevant text in the save file. Whatever they did, I'm impressed it's handled so gracefully, instead of, say, crashing.

What I was meaning was the error showing up when just launching the game (as just clicking the icon to start) , or actuallying starting a new game or continuing a current one . English is not my native language , i'm a Texan ...lol ! :steamhappy:

Oh, you mean you don't know which one? AFAIK, it always happens right at startup. If you get past that point, you should be fine.
