First of all, the only pause/unpause key in this game is "P". Second, I tried that too but it didn't work. No keys work, not even escape. Only the Alt+F4 combination works.
Another solution may be to tab out of the game, hibernate your pc with the game still running and power it back on.
all the players get the hotkeyed specific units of the host.
You lose your own hotbindings and get a shortcut to whatever the host binded to the keys.
If it's impossible to control that unit you simply lose it all :D
Option -> Key assignment -> select a function and change it to something else -> then click 'Default settings'
Today I'm back with the History Edition and experienced the exact issue mentioned here.
After replicating the steps, I found out it was my bluetooth earbuds creating the issue when reconnecting. Once I put them back on I lose major keys commands (Esc, tab, F5 to save, hotkeys -like 1,2,3). I can still mouse my way into saving but it's game over if I press "P" to Pause-Unpause.
Weird huh...
Hey Verty,
Thank you for sharing this, how odd!
Glad to hear you've since been able to find out the cause!

Hi TheBerry,
Way to reach out to a fan, thank you.
I've tried creating a ticket right after and failed to do so due to Ubi Support being down for the moment.
If you are interested in some digging, I've come across a similar exchange: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/287071/connecting-to-bluetooth-earphone-disables-keyboard
As my workaround, I just purchased aux headphones to keep enjoying the game and had no issues since.
Thanks for sharing extra info on this too Verty, really appreciate it!
