Anno 1404: Venice

Anno 1404: Venice

Low Frame rates FPS in Anno 1404 Venice
Dear Anno 1404 players,

After a long time I returned to this beautiful game. I noticed the frame rates in Venice are quite lower than that in the base game. I can run the base game very smoothly on all the highest settings with 60 fps. On Venice, it will drop to a mere 13 fps. Can someone tell me how to solve this issue?

Specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz 4.01 GHz
RAM: 24,0 GB
Windows 10, 64-bits Operating system, x64-processor
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX1080 8GB

Thanks in advance and take care everyone!
Humulus

Hello Humulus, thank you for getting in touch.

I believe this issue may be caused by the fact the game was originally released for Windows 7 whereas you are using a Windows 10 operating system to run the game.

To help resolve this issue please try running the games .exe file using the Windows Compatibility option.

  • First locate the games .exe file in its installation path
  • Right click on the file and select the Properties option
  • Next, select the 'Compatibility' tab
  • Select the one of the older Windows OS - Windows 7
  • Select Apply
  • Select OK
  • Launch game by double clicking on the games .exe file

Please note, the game also uses the older versions of DirectX, DirectX 9 supporting software. Please make sure this version is installed in your games 'Support' installation folder, if you having any problems launching the game.

These older versions of DirectX, can also be downloaded from the Microsoft website, here - https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=35

Please let me know how you get on after trying this step?

Dear Ubisoft Support,

Thanks for replying! The property settings have already been set to the Windows 7 compatibility mode. However, I cannot figute out how to enable the DirectX 9 supporting software. When I use your download link and run it, the setup tells me I already have the newest verion and so an installation is not required. Can you tell me how to enable this DirectX 9 package?

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it!

Hey Humulus!

You should be able to check if the DirectX 9 files are in the game already by going to the game's local files and Support\DirectX folder, there should be some files titled d3dx9 which should indicate if DirectX 9 is installed.

Please give this a check and let us know if it's there for you!

Thank you!

Hello Ubisoft support,

I dont have a d3dx9 file in either the support or the directX folder. When I run the DXSETUP.exe in the DirectX file, it will start downloading but nothing happens afterwards
