Having crash issues with Anno 1404: Venice.
Hey.
First of all, this is my go to game for city building and i love it!
But i'm having the same issue as alot of other people have about the game crashing in-game. Haven't installed the 4GB Patch that let the game handle more RAM because i haven't dared too. Mostly because i don't trust it...
I've tried to :
* lower the graphic setting
* played the game outside of steam with addon.exe
* Unchecked the Enable steam overlay

But! Since i really want to play and enjoy this game, which i'm not with venice at the moment since it crashes and keep getting varnings about low memory. I figured i should try the normal Anno 1404 version and it works perfectly so far!
I know that you might want to play the expansion, but the normal anno 1404 is enough for me so this is just a tip if you're getting annoyed with crashes and don't want to download that patch.
As of now, i'm playing with Anno4.exe outside of steam and with max resolution and medium graphics and it works smooth as silk. Try it! :)

Why Venice keeps crashing and Anno1404 doesn't i don't know and i think it is weird since i've heard that the problem is the computer being "too good"...

Well good luck to you all, just wanted to share this info with you. Take care!

Hello! I hope you are well, and it's very nice to read you enjoy the game so much :)

I also have some steps that I'd like to add, that may help with the memory crashing error. Here we go -

1) Exit the Anno 1404: Venice completely
2) Press the Windows-key and the "R"-key on your keyboard
3) Enter the following path in the new window and confirm with "Ok":

%AppData%\Ubisoft\Anno1404Addon\Config

4) Open the file „Engine.ini“ and change the following line „<DirectXVersion>0</DirectXVersion>“ in „<DirectXVersion>9</DirectXVersion>“

The config file is sometimes creates incorrectly, and these steps will hopefully resolve it for you.

All the very best!

Well it worked much better with your tip. Played for about 2 hours straight without any memory warnings but still crashed again :(
Right now im playing on a medium map vs 2 computer players and have around 10.000 inhabitants. So i'm guessing it's still the RAM thats the problem. But if i can play 2 hours straight untill the next crash, that is still fine by me. :) Thanks again!
