Anno 1404: Venice

Where is the activation key stored?
I previously installed Anno 1404: Venice from a CD, and though I deinstalled it and reinstalled my recently purchased Steam copy, I never needed to enter my Steam 'CD key'. I think this is why I can't play multiplayer.
Can anyone help me find the location where my previous CD key is stored, so I can delete it and play with my Steam activation code instead?

I only know that you can get your steam game activation codes when you right click the game from your game library and select ''View CD-key''

Anno 1404 has two different types of player profiles: online and offline.
Have you tried creating a new online profile ingame?
