I understand you are unable to play Anno 1404: Venice as you get a black screen. To attempt to resolve this issue, I'd recommend following all the steps from this article[www.ubisoft.com], regarding the troubleshooting of technical issues on PC. These should help your PC run the game smoothly!

Hey e+,
I'm afraid we are very limited in support we can offer with Linux based systems as the game is designed for use on and currently only supported on Windows based PCs.
You can read the system requirements here.[www.ubisoft.com]
Hopefully other Linux users in the community may be able to share some additional insight here, but officially I'm afraid we don't support Linux.

1. insert
2. execute the following command to enable directX 9 in the wine environment (requires winetricks to be installed; set the path to wherever you installed Anno 1404)
I gathered these steps mostly from protondb, where some people suggested additional changes, but these three were enough in my case.
Thank you so much, I had given up and uninstalled the game. I now reinstalled it and following the same guide you mentioned, I managed to get it running. Thanks!
I hope you have a great time in 1404!
