Anno 1404 on MAC
Hi Guys,
Love this game. Anyone had any luck running this on MAC Catalina? I previously used wine, but with Catalina removing support for this, I struggled with 7 steam builds for Porting Kit (none got it to work). Appreciate the help and then would like to challenge you online.
Take care!

You can play the game without steam, did you try this?
So try to start the game with the addon.exe

Tried, but it still just opens the window and then crashes

If it crash than because of the game is not made for 64bit systems.

You need to patch the exe, look in my guide if you can do this on the MAC

Thanks man I've already tried those options. Thing is, when Catalina removed 32 bit support, wineskins had issues. So now I have 64 bit catalina only -> 32 bit steam wine (porting kit). the only one I can try is running the exe file somehow - already did directx versions, removing steam overlay etc... it's really a nuanced situation.

Did you make the Part about the "4GB Patch", because solves 90% of the crash issues.

Thanks Shona foryour prompt response - unfortunately, Porting Kit says it's unable to open the exe file.
If that's any reference, GoG version was ported successfully and I can play that singleplayer. I was really hoping to play with the group I had.

To play with someone they need the followong game version

Anno Venice 2.1 (InGame 2.01) or Anno 1404 "Königs-Edition 1.3 (InGame 1.03)

These Versions can play together, so if you bought the game on GoG and it is Version 2.1 you can play with friends which have the game on Steam or from Ubisoft with the same Version ;)

Shona - but how do you then connect if multiplayer button is greyed out and response from Ubi account is "unable to connect to server"? Your help brings me hope that I can manage that without spending more for unneccessary 2nd pc.

If the Multiplayer Button is greyed out the servers are curretly down or you did not login in your Ubisoft account.

So first of all, if you start the game is there a small Window in the Main Menu which says "Online Status"? If not you did not login to Ubisoft.

Be sure you made a ONLINE PROFILE under "Player Profile" -> "Player Management" -> "Download Profile".

The difference between an Online and an Offline Profile looks like this https://prnt.sc/vb6su5
(1. Offline, 2. Online)

If you had a profile before try "Download Profile" but be sure you use your legacy username to login.

Quote from my second guide:
"Anno 1404/Anno 1404 Venice needs your legacy username or your email adress.
The legacy username is the username you registered by Ubisoft/Uplay!
Older games which are released before 14. October 2014 needs this username to login."

If the download failed in any way try to create a new "Online Profile", if this also failed try my second guide because sometimes Ports are blocked and you can't ligin correctly.

You can also try to play with Hamatchi and the "Multiplayer - Local Network" Button, this is also more stable than the normal way ;)
