The "Bug" you mean is not a bug, it means your profile is damaged and need to be fixed.
To fix it you can send the profile file via Ticket to the Ubisoft Supprt and they fix it for you.
-> https://support.ubisoft.com/en-GB/Article/000076335/Probleme-beim-Download-des-Onlineprofils
To get your CD Key from Steam. Rightclick the Game -> Manage -> CD Keys
I forgot the Ubi Support is sometimes stupid, so write back that your online profile isn't working and send it with the ticket
It toook me two weeks, in this time i made an offline profile and played there so i always have a profile to play.
To prevent this issue make backups from your online profile ;)
If that is a possibility, could you show/text me how? I'm not that tech savvy (regrettably). As always, thank you for taking the time to read this, and any help is always greatly appreciated. :)
This "Downloading..." Bug can't be fixed with Anno 1404 History Edition because it is either the Servers are down or the profile is damaged. Last one is the most common issue.
If you still can play with your profile i really recomment a backup of your profile everytime before you start the game and change the name of the file with the date like "12345679_06_12_2020.profile" so you always know from when the profile is.
The Profiles are in "C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Ubisoft\Anno1404\Profiles\"
If you can't see the folder "AppData" press the Windows Key on your Keyboard and type %appdata% and press enter. You are now in the folder "AppData\Roaming"
It looks like this if i make a backup https://prnt.sc/vwvspw
You can download the program here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/19ARBtzOWQXLaLLddPACZo35s453wNP0p/view?usp=sharing
You can make every second a backup if you want ;)
I managed to find my save profile, under the folder that you mentioned. But the program that you linked, it is not really working for me. It says, that I need permission before accessing the drive. Am I doing this right?
Also, do I just run the program when I get the permission? And what/how does compressing/compiling the save profile "fix" it?
Also also, the profile is in a strange format. It is not in notepad or any other programs that I know of. You sure 7Zip can open/fix it?
As always, thank you immensly for the help. This has been far more helpful than the Ubisoft support team. You are the true MVP :)
My program doesn't fix anything... My program only makes a backup of your profile and archive it in a 7zip-file
7Zip is a Archiver Program like WinRar or WinZip. You can't open the profiles with it.

If you wanna fix a profile you have to send it via Ticket to Ubisoft as it is written in the first link i gave you. Only Ubisoft can fix a profile, they did it for me and it worked.
Thanks a billion times again for the help. I'll comment on this post, should I succed in my endevaurs, in case someone stumbles on the same problem as I.
One last thing: if I make backups of my profiles, will that "safeguard" any future corruption of my player profiles? And can I just backup my profiles by making copies of the .profile and putting them into a folder in my documents? Or is it nessesary to compress them with Winrar/7Zip?
Thank you once again. Hope you are having a splendid day. :)
