The scenarios of the main game are in Venice but a little bit different because they have now the Venice stuff in it.
Also you can play it in multiplayer which wasn't in the game before Venice.
----
Hint: If you have any issuses with the game look in the guides, i made two guide to solve most of the issues.
the original campaign is unlike shona wich explained further correct also playable after you installed venice.
if you play venice you can't play wihout the add-ons of venice that would be the only downside of it.
Since all of these things are an enrichment for the game i still say go for venice, the price won't stop you either.
As a tip: make an online profile asap becouse if you ever play on another pc all your progress is lost, with an online profile not. With an offline profile you will also never be able to play multiplayer.
what venice adds outside one game:
-more scenarios wich allows you to collect more gems and the scnarios are quite fun
-more ornementals/coat of arms/colours etc wich can be unlocked using gems
-more achievements wich earn you gems
-more titles
what venice adds affecting every game:
-venetian trader
-venetian trader attaints (upgrades)
-sabotaging and counter espionage with other players (option to turn it off)
-option of buying islands from other players (not immidiant, you see it comming, option to turn this off)
-more ornements including the venetian palace with expansions, npc,s will build these as well.
-venetian ships can be build
-small volcanic islands with interesting mining system
-more usable items
things venice won't add:
-no further civilization levels
-no new goods
-no new military units
-no new complete campaign but it does add 3 times as many scenarios from the original
in general after you installed venice and you play the campaign or the original you see what venice adds if you play a normal game. You won't find anything annoying in venice wich you can't turn off in a sanbox game.
it still might be possible i have forgotten things...
