used to play cossacks as kid i had a lot of fun doing crazy stuff with the editor oh and which dlc is for cossacks would you reccommend? . i never played age of empires 2 before but it looks fun.

i dont know, but age of empires 2 is getting a definitive edition this year so it might probably be better to wait for that, although if you own age of empires 2 hd you will get a discount on the definitive edition and the definitive edition requires windows 10 so i dont know...

well, it are microsoft games so they probably wanted to boost windows 10 but i dont know.

it is good that it even will be available on steam since the definitive edition of AOE 1 originally was microsoft store exclusive. (it will come to steam this year too but still requires windows 10)

but happily the HD version of AOE 2 does not require windows 10 so if you dont have windows 10 you still can go with AOE 2 HD depending on if you want to buy AOE or cossacks.

unfortunately i am the wrong person for this question, i never palyed against higher ai difficulties so i dont really know how good the AI really is.

I'd wait for AoE2:DE if I were you, it will only come out in a few months, I'm guessing September or at least around that since that's when the game officially turns 20.

i dont want windows 10 i prefer 7 i decided to buy the hd version

Don't get aoe2 it's engine is centuries old and I can recommend the same advice for aoe2de if they don't improve it. I even consider cossacks engine not the best but it beats aoe2hd easily.

Like here's the real question... If you want to play the game get cossacks 3 or she of empires 3 (aoe3 is also fairly future proof because it can utulize hardware very well) Nd if you want to watch the game get aoe2... XD

Like really I might have quite some hours in aoe2 but I mostly modded the game and watched AIs play and yes I've tried the game a couple of times playing it myself but just don't really don't

And if you actually bought HD refund it dude really saves you.a bad buy

have you actually seen the definitive editions?

and AOE 3 is getting a definitive edition as well with at least 4k support, new models and UI improvements but it is too early to know what else is getting improved yet.

The AI in Cossacks 3 isn't outstanding, you will probably be able to fight the impossible AI (strongest one) quite fast.
It has basically one pattern and doesn't change much from that. There is not much surprise there.

so is cossacks, your arguement is terrible.

AOE2 and cossacks are two different games another comparing apples and oranges bollocks (inb4 censor because we can't swear and hurt feelings now can we?).

Both are great games and both have their problems, for example cossacks very linear and predictable AI to AOE's questionable pathing.

The engines are both old as hell and need revamping since DE is getting a graphical overhual with physics (something cossacks lacks) the only problem is microsofts in ability to actually port the game beyond their terrible p*ss poor OS called windows 10.

Also you seem to forget cossacks 3 was riddled with bugs and even to this day multiplayer is sketchy as hell because the devs have basically abandonded the project (oh look actually doing your job properly allows you to keep doing who would of thought?).

oh well.

I would say that Age of Empires the emphasis always laid more on empire economy building,

and that Cossacks was more focussed on famous battles of the Napoleonic Era, thus more focussed on battles, then that it was on empire building.


I have no idea on the multiplayer scene of either games but im gonna assume that AoE2 is the more popular one.



I own both games. both are gems . i would recommend both.

If they do it right (meta balancing, AI, multiplayer system) yes it will stomp aoe2hd. I'm hoping so because then streamers and the competitive scene will mostly switch to de.
