17th c. dragoon VS 18th c. dragoon
I was just playing with the editor and checking out some of the units (for France).

Can someone explain to me why a 17th century dragoon is much better than the 18th?

The 18th has less fire power and less HP for the basic unit.

What's the deal? Surely 100 years of military advancement didn't turn 18th century dragoons into weaklings compared to their predecessors!?

Or is it the case that after all upgrades the 18th is much better? Either way, what is the rationale for the basic unit for 18th being so inferior to 17th?

The french XVIIIth c. dragoon has more firepower once fully upgraded like you guessed. He also has faster build time, especially compared to the regular dragoon of other nation. Basically by the time they form 2 you have already 3 out. They are weak but they aren't supposed to be in the front.

Historically under most this period, most dragoon weren't good soldier in France, mostly garrison and unit of infantry that were mounted to move faster and were used to maintain order, they were numerous but not especially trained. Feared because of their violent behaving, especially after Louis XIV used them to force the conversion of the protestant. They stayed in the house of the local inhabitant.

The kings musketters you mean? Because 17th century dragoons are inferiour to 18th centrury dragoons. France has a unique ranged cavalry called the Kings musketter. They have a slower attack speed, cost a lot of gold for upkeep and a very short range compared to the 17th and 18th dragoons.

I think he just compared the two in the editor without any upgrade and the french XVIIIth c. start with less attack, and has only 140 hp.
