UI too small on 4K
Hi, I just bought Dawn of Discovery & Venice on Steam. I'm trying to play this game on an Alienware notebook with 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution using GTX 1070.

The problem is that the UI/Interface is way too small. None of the text, buttons, interface is readable or comprehensible.

I've had similar issues with other games but was able to resolve them using some or the other setting in an *.ini file or something.

Is there any solution for Anno 1404 to make it playable on this resolution?

Thanks!

Well I was just about to purchase this, but since I can't play it at 4k I guess i'll pass. Thanks for bringing it to attention. If you find a solution let us know please.

Hi, yeah I'm a little disappointed. I scoured the Internet for a possible solution but there isn't any, and judging by the age of the game, I just don't Ubisoft is going to release a patch/fix.

I barely spent a few dollars on the whole set during the Sale a few days ago, less then a cup of Grande coffee at Starbucks, so the expense was not an issue.

I'm finally had to give in, and playing at 1080p. The good thing is that I don't have to switch my laptop resolution, I just choose the resolution in-game from Anno 1404 Options. It's perfectly fine at 1080p even with my laptop at 4k, so that's good.

Still not happy, but going to live with it for my love for Anno. This title is actually pretty good.

Dawn of discovery was released in 2009, Venice consequently in 2010. 4k was not even developed until 2016. If you think you need 4k to play this game you probably need to do some reading (among other things). 2k is a stretch for what it was originally intended and its fine. By the way while the 1070 is considered a 4k capable card, you won't be playing any demanding games in 4k at decent fps. Also this game has zero reason to require 4k, it's like $10 for the whole thing and it's better than a $60 game. You can turn down the resolution, play in windowed mode etc... many options to get perfectly acceptable gameplay.

+1 for this. Anno 1404 is an awesome game and it is not difficult to play at a lower resolution. People who are expecting a super old game to look great in 4k are idiots

There are heaps and heaps of games from the early 2000s using DX9 that have UI scaling options or unofficial patches for that or mods that do it. Unfortunately this isn't one of those games. The tools above with their 4K res bashing need to get a life, not only that but critiquing your gfx card which is still great and has nothing to do with the question; seriously, what a douche!

Nevermind the fact that 1080P scales quite well to 4K anyways. The game is rather old at this point and expecting it to run in 4K and have the UI be flawless is a bit silly.

If I had known beforehand that so many games had issues on 4K I wouldn't have bothered with it with my last pc upgrade...

depending on your monitor using 1080p looks horrible the scaling for me doesn't work at all any game below 1440p looks like garbage unless it has some sort of automatic scaling feature and my new graphics card doesn't support my old monitor adapters

also playing everything on 4k is annoying because even older games get my graphics card running at high speeds so yeah I'm really considering buying a 1440p monitor that can scale down to 1080p too

The Anno History Collection is releasing on June 25 at the ubisoft website that includes this game and 3 other games, and apparently they added support for 4K with presumably upscaling UI, multiscreen support, and online matchmaking.

I tried playing the original in 4K but the UI did not scale and was hard to read, so I decided to play the game in 1080 which is still good.

It requires an imbecile to not realize that if you're looking to run a game in 4K, it must be because you have a 4K monitor. Some "super old" games work fine, and others can't even be downscaled to some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ res like 1080p because they won't run in full screen, but in a tiny, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ little window which needs a magnifying glass in order to be legible, even when the game is set to full screen or you alt+enter.

The UI will scale correctly to 4K if you launch the game via Ubisoft Connect.
