How does this game work?
This game seems pretty cool, but there's so much about it that doesn't seem to be explained anywhere! What are those icons to the left when you're ravaging a city? How come I sometimes heal while ravaging a city? What triggers that? Y'know, basic "How does this game work" stuff. Is there a resource for that? Are there any benefits or disadvantages to killing civilians? etc.

Thanks.

Ok, answering as much as I can.
The ones on the left are based upon the citie's current statistics, such as how much of it is burning, and what kind of forces are being summoned to fight you. The killing of civillians will help cause their morale to drop, making it easier to take over the city. Depending on your Kaiju, you may heal in a few ways, though this is generally based upon resource gathering or abilities. Sadly, I cannot explain more than that.

Other than that, you probably figured out abilities, and other parts of this. There is a small tutorial to the game, but it is mostly expositionary and not really one that points out the information.

The icons above your kaiju portrait are your current buffs:
Extradage done
Spead
Armor
Ability Recharge

These are affected by whatever passive abilities you have researched, active abilities in use, and certain enemies can affect them (ice tanks will slow you, acid reduces armor, etc...)

Thanks, that's very helpful.

Is all this actually documented somewhere?

These three videos should answer most of your questions, and show you how the game plays out:

This appears to me like a Rampage World Tour game. Not as graphically pleasing but still almost the same concept. The original Rampage was designed back in 1986.

Would anyone mind sharing more information about cities surrendering? The tutorial or the first missions stated that simply dropping morale to 40 would cause an instant surrender, but I'm finding this is not true. I'm getting cities down to 35 and they still won't surrender so I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks!

I'm on my first game, and usually cities surrender between 30 and 37 morale. In my experience, they will NEVER surrender at exactly 40. Actually the in game tips that came up, said that if they don't surrender at 40, then keep stomping on them, which is what I did. Some cities surrendered at 36 or 37. Some cities surrended at around 33. And one city was really stuborn and waited until it was down to 30 to surrender.

So you aren't doing anything wrong, you just didn't get the morale down low enough yet. Just keep stomping on them :)

Thanks for the response!

I guess the thing about not knowing an exact number for me is when my Kaiju has taken enough damage to force a decision between retreating or pushing on for another point or two.

there's actually a Manual in game but I couldn't for the life of me tell you how to get to it. Another player found it apparently on the other Forums

Yeah, I saw that post too and tried, unsucessfuly, for at least half an hour to find it.

Manual won't help with all questions. For example, it is taking me like 20 hours to play the game from beginning to end (from year 1 to end of year 4), which seems like a lot of time. I'm estimating 20 hours, it may be longer then that, since it took me like 12 hours to get to the end of year 2. I'm currently in a game, at the start of year 3. Wanted to know how long other people spend on a normal game. Also I can't defeat a tier 3 city using tier 3 abilities on Ginormausaurus (i researched all the ones i want, including all the passive ones). Do other people have problems defeating a tier 3 city, with only tier 3 abilities on Ginomausaurus?

In my current game I struggle to topple a tier 2 city with a few tier 3 Gino abilities after maybe a dozen attempts. My island is about to get wiped out too, but this is my first time playing and I've made tons of mistakes along the way.

Thanks for your post, it helped clear up two of my questions.

This is where I'm at on my game: I'm at the beginning of year 3 in my current game after playing for about 12 hours. I made a lot of mistakes too. For example, when I started playing, I didn't realize you were allowed to attack cities outside of region 1. It took me like 6 months of game time before I tryed to do it. I also died a couple times, and lost time while rebuilding my Kaiju. Plus I wasted a lot of time trying to attack tier 3 cities, and didn't get that much resources from them. Right now I can take tier 2 cities, using my current combination of skills. I'm actually still using a couple lower tier skills still, along with my tier 3 skills. I researched all the tier 1, 2 and 3 passive skills too. If you haven't done it yourself, try to get all the passive skills, since they all add up and you can have unlimited passive skills. With my current selection of skills, I can take most tier 2 cities on first or second attempt now. I may end up saving one or two of the tier 2 cities, and letting them heal so I can keep going back to them for more money until I get tier 4 skills. I currently own like 9 cities. Which isn't very many for how many hours I played. But I was mainly playing it safe and cautious, retreating before dieing every time.

My island hasn't been attacked yet, I built two guns on it, but that isn't very much defenses. I'm only on tier 3 at the beginning of year 3, so I was going to save up to get tier 4. But maybe I should spend more money on more defenses before worrying about tier 4. I don't have enough defenses for an attack yet. I'm not sure if you get attacked because of how many cities you conquered or if it is the date on the calendar. What date on the calendar were you attacked at?

I'm pretty sure, I won't win this game, since I don't see anyway of defeating the whole world in the 2 remaining years I have left. You only have 5 years total to defeat the world and then its too late. Thats what I read, unless they changed it?

I'm just breaking even at the moment, from the cities I own and the cost of running my base. I built a communications away, like a year ago in game time (and that seems like a total waste of money......nobody listens to my threats.....lol). I would recycle it, but you get so little money back.

I was reading the wiki page for the game, and a lot of information is missing, but I found out that if you build a launch pad you can create satelittes and a drop ship. The drop ship sounds really cool because it can speed up the time it takes to launch an attack on a city. And that will give you more time to win the game in the 5 year limit.

Thanks for all the info, a lot of this is news to me. The game doesn't even slightloy hint that there's a time limit to conquering the world. I think I'm almost done with year 3 and have all the tier 1 cities plus a single tier 2. ...and yeah, it took me a while to figure out I could easily go after all the tier 1 cities regardless of region instead of getting beaten down repeatedly by higher tier cities in the first region.

I don't know why they're not coming after you like they are me, I've fought of two invasions now and each time left my defenses pretty much destroyed, losing easily half a dozen guns each time. This latest time 3 or 4 destroyers just sat there shelling my turrets after 6 or 7 planes beat the crap out of my pet, but didn't quite kill it so I was eventually able to deal with the boats.

Definitely the hardest part of base defense is lack of sight through uncleared forest. I thought I was saving money in not outright deforesting Island X as fast as I could, but that decision has caused me no end of grief in not even being able to see or target attacking vehicles and infantry.

As far as abilities, I tend to prioritze the passives as they take no concentration or activation. The deescription of the active upgrades seemed rather unimpressive to me so I've been putting them off.
