For my money, the best is the 2008 Prince of Persia -- the one without the subtitle. It took me a while to warm up to it -- the character designs are ridiculous and Nolan North's performance is just annoying. But it's got the best and most varied gameplay of all the games, and provides a great deal of free exploration with reasons to re-visit areas metroidvania-style. And the ending is just amazing -- it's the kind of risky narratively-experimental stuff that you don't normally find in a big-budget game.

Prince of Persia Warrior Within. And also the Prince of Persia game in MS-DOS. :D

I'd have to say that overall, Sands of Time is the best. The length is great, the characters are superb, and the gameplay is solid.

Warrior Within introduced the dual-weapon combat (excellent) and some new movement and fighting mechanics. In these two areas, Warrior Within beats all the other PoP games. However, I found the stylistic change unwarrented and did not really enjoy the Island of Time as much as other locations.

The Two Thrones introduces yet more movement and fighting mechanics, as well as QTE battles and charriot races. I found the story to be close to the Sands of Time, with a fairly interesting environment. However, I found the QTE battles to be lack-luster and the charriot races to be a pointless addition. The dynamic of playing as both the normal and dark prince is really quite enjoyable.

Prince of Persia 2008 is absolutely gorgeous. The story is really interesting, the world is large and varied, and the music is excellent. However, the fluid combat has been replaced with an almost turn-based feeling combat. The movement feels incredibly on-rails compared to the earlier PoP games and isn't very enjoyable.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands returns to a mixture of Sands of Time/Warrior Within combat and momvement, with touches of style from both. There is no dual-weapon combat, but the combat moves are really varied and fluid. There are many new powers/mechanics introduced in this game, and they're all quite fun. If the game was longer and had a better story, I'd rank it up with the Sands of Time.

In short, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the PoP games.

Played them all, this one is the one that stayed with me the most. This is the only game I truly became attached to the characters.

If you want to play a more difficult one. My secret love is warrior within. I love the metal music, the combat, the scantily clad women. Very different tone from the other games, and it has the best combat.:coolsam:

Warrior within i have to agree, I´ve played all prince games since the reboot in 2003. It´s harder but more rewarding also

Warrior Within. Along with the great gameplay experience and somewhat rich storyline the soundtrack is awesome.
I just have to add that I've never played the 2008 PoP and I've only tried Forgotten Sands but I'm looking forward to buy them both.

i would have to say Warrior Within due to the puzzle solving. Since the entire castle was essentially one huge puzzle that needed solving or better said unraveling. Very close to Tomb Raider in how challenging it was when it comes to its puzzle solving.
Warrior Within=best puzzles
Two Thrones=best combat
Sands of Time=best story
SoT, WW and T2T. If I have to pick one, definatelly WW

I played them all at their release way back. Here is my ranking:

1: Sands of time
2: 4th game
3: warrior within
4: forgotten sands
5: two thrones

Two thrones is the only one I didnt like. The other 4 I really loved.

I love PoP 2008 combat. While i do love normal action games, i love battle systems that stray from the norm. I love that it's more tactical and you have to put more thought into every attack.
Like in original Prince of Persia, where you have to mind the enemy movements before doing any attack, any mistake can be fatal.
