Is this the trend of video games?!

Okay,

when I played the demo of this game, I was surprised pretty much. The gameplay was unusual to me and since I wasn't able to buy it right at the time when Chapter 1 came out, I looked up a video on Youtube.

This was the time, when red flag went up in my mind. You play as a man and a woman just pushes you down as if you are lower than dirt. I considered that maybe she is just snarky and ignored it, because over the time, that is who Bierce was.

But then, Chapter 4 came out and it showed that my red flag was right. Doug, the main character, is portraied as a douche, a cheater and hates his own daughter.

That was the moment I couldn't continue this game. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't the gameplay, but this scene, that showed how chauvinistic Doug was. Which brings us to the title of my post.

Why is it that men in video games are shown as negative elements or simply idiots nowadays? And especially white men. Do people really hate white men so much that they simply use them as the villains nowadays like all of the Germans in WW2 games? I really want to understand why this is happening, because all I see, is that nowadays, women are the better humans and men are lower than dirt, not worth it to live.

Not that I say that people should stop immediately making such games, but is this the future? Is a man just a punching bag and villain, especially with a white skin?

I'm confused.

It's not the future, it's already the present, as you pointed out actually. Will most likely get more attention as an issue at some point, but before it comes to a tipping point where people will actually start realizing what they're doing, there likely wont be anything happening to reverse or stop this. And it might be a while until that happens.

The thread is not made for Steam Discussions, really. A better place to go would be Reddit, most likely, or Twitter, but prepare yourself to be shut down with killer arguments by an angry mob of feminists calling you sexist (or anything of this sort, anyway), especially on the latter.

I didn't really see it in that way, after all stories are all for interpretation right? Bierce is just as much of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ person as Doug is, its just that Bierce's backstory is just vaguely glazed over and sort of "fake" for the lack of a better word, while Doug's backstory is pretty relatable to the average person and can be seen to be more vile with the use of more commonly heard of events.

I do agree that some games do edge on the "men are bumbling fools, women are stronk", but Dark Deception is specifically just a game about a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ person trying to get a second chance. Its not really an attack on white men in this specific case, something like TLOU2 would probably fit more of that bill.

I definetely dont think that they chose a white skined man for the reason hes a douche lmao. You re overthinking this way too much. Also if you look into the games lore.. bierce herself is a douche who tried to cheat her way to stardom by doing crimes and cheating a demon. Shes not better. Thats just her personality. I do not get why you think like that... Are they obligated to put for example a black woman in order to prove something? No. this isnt the intention of this game. You are focusing on the wrong things. This game doesnt try to imply anything about white skinned men being douches. Its just a random character design. Completely random. Also for clearification we are not playing as the douche doug who pushed around his mother and daughter. We are playing as a regretful doug who now after many years cherishes his family and realises what he lost. And is going through so much in order to rebuild his family and give them a better life. The developers of this game didnt think of it like "since the protagonist is a douche he should be a white skinned man".. ridiculous
