Please consider hiding the pieces while the game is paused!
Not to be a killjoy or anything; I just feel like unfaithful players might abuse the pause feature just to look at pieces while paused which ruins the nature of the series. Of course, I am not suggesting to remove pause completely, but hiding the Tetrominoes away while in the menu screen is a a very simple way to get around that issue. Cheers.

Well, if you really wanted to cheat, you could record your gameplay and look at the broadcast whenever you pause. If this is a problem you want to solve, I think the only way to solve it is to limit pauses (for example after unpausing you're locked out of pausing again for N seconds, or your score is marked as 'with pauses')

Or more simple, pausing in non-practice mode only allows retry or quit, not continue.

If the replays showed when the player pressed pause/ESC, this wouldn't be a problem. At the moment, if a player really wants to, he can create TAS style videos abusing pauses, save the replay, then capture the replay playback and upload it as if it were a legitimate gameplay.

Not that it's a big deal, if someone is so desperate for attention to do that, then he'd probably find other solutions to forge gameplays, but even so, I think the mere inclusion of the pause/esc key in that UI element that shows the buttons the player is pressing would make life a little harder for those who want to do this kind of trolling stuff.

Yes, please add pause counter to replay. This way people can reject replays that abuse pause.

Even if hide field on paus es implemented, maybe leave field visible for Konoha easy, because Konoha Easy is considered exhibition.

Ultimately, this is a PC game. The leaderboards WILL be full of cheaters and five years from now there will be youtube videos about half of the "top" players having been cheaters. Like every other game. The crux being that you can't solve this problem client side but I agree that it shouldn't be easy because it'll tempt normal players into using it as crutch.

The leaderboards are just people taking down data for videos or submitted replays.

So they can very easily police it f there's a nice shiny pause counter.

Yes. Agree. The replay could easily show a simple "Pause" text in the center.

What's the point of pause then?

Sometimes arcade-type games provide a button to quick restart or quit a run you would like to abandon, but don't provide a way to resume and register a score once that button is pressed. The "Hi Score" mode in Arcade Archives releases functions this way, for instance. It just depends on how strict the in-game/online leaderboard criteria is designed.
