Development Update: Progress Report April 6, 2025 ? 17:04(JST)

We are currently working on the following items:

Investigating startup freeze issues, including collecting sample cases and reviewing user-submitted information (highest priority)

Verifying how other games implement keyboard binding systems (highest priority)

Reviewing feedback regarding control feel and usability (mid- to long-term task)

Considering changes to the current system where score rankings are reset with each update (long-term task)

Planning WHD (widescreen) support (mid-term task)

Implementing the KAMUI command (long-term task)

We plan to share a progress report by 6:00 PM tomorrow (Monday, JST),
along with a separate explanation of the development concept and its background.

Here is a summary of recent user-reported findings regarding bugs and issues:

Installing DirectX 9 seems to allow the game to launch (confirmed)
English: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

If using WHD display output, setting the aspect ratio to 16:9 helps (confirmed)

Suspected issue on systems without AVX2 support (under investigation)

Switching to an external display allows the game to launch (under investigation)

Thank you all for your continued feedback and support.

Thank you for all your hard work in making this game the best it can be! Excited to see these changes when they're finished, please take your time!
Thank you  I have a suggestion: a setting to change the location of the NEXT piece, to have it positioned where it is in TGM1, 2 and 3 (top, center, aligned where the piece falls). I don't know if it was considered.
note that the minimum intel cpu requirements listed does support AVX2. for AMD Excavator and newer desktop and laptop cpus should handle the game properly, and have enough cpu power. i have an excavator laptop i intend to test on.

Thank you Mihara-san! Its been so heartwarming to see the passion put into the game along with the feedback taken from the overseas communities so swiftly to make a better game.
TGM4EVER!

It is forced by TTC.

Damn it LOL. Well, I guess I'll retain a tiny shred of hope, not too much though. Thanks for the explanation.

My hope is that if enough of us still complain this will give Mihara-san and Arika enough ammo to ask TTC to revert this stupid decision.

The way it is currently as a default is fine. A setting to change it to "TGM mode" would be ideal, just like how we can reduce the number of pieces shown in NEXT. But honestly I don't know how flexible TTC is with that, so I'll try my best to adapt to the way it is now.
Games that allow rebinding keyboard almost always allow rebinding all possible inputs, including the four directions.

Tetris.com web based tetris game is a good reference for this.

https://tetris.com/play-tetris/

as you can see, it allows all controls be rebound. that said the mouse doesn't work inside of TGM4.

So i recommend that menu input outside of game mode always accept arrow keys, enter, and escape, in addition to anything else bound to ok and back. this should allow all game mode inputs to be rebound.

This is to accommodate WASD and arrow key/numpad users.

If you added wasd as a forced alternate bind, then you would be unfair to arrow key and numpad users, who may wish to bind a s or d to something else.

Also, PLEASE allow binding up to hard drop and 2nd CW to whatever. if you must, have it as a toggle in the rebind menu, so whatever is actually up will move up in the menu.

also implement cleaning on move right, move left, hard drop and soft drop. on all input methods. The current system of prefer movement to drop does work, but as i've stated, people will generally prefer last wins, and can use keyboard firmware/external software to get this regardless of what your game decides.

This is also the reason that the DAS preservation with frame perfect reversals should be removed, because it's trivial on everything that's not a stick that has it's own cleaning, which is all leverless, and many gaming keyboards.

Edit: I fixed the issue myself. Turns out that this is indeed a multi-monitor issue. Despite not actually having a second monitor, the computer somehow registers a second monitor.
What I found and did when I resolved my issue:
- (I am not connecting to 2 monitors. If you are connected to 2 or more monitors, you might want to disconnect some until you have one monitor.)
- go to system settings -> display.
- Check if the system still thinks multi-monitor settings should be dislayed - for me, it shows the thing to drag monitors around, and under "multiple monitors" or something like that, it gives me the option to choose which monitor(s) to display.
- I toggled the display from "display on monitor 2 only" to "display on monitor 1 only".
- screen goes black, then go back, with a prompt asking whether I'd like to keep my settings. After I click "keep", the aforementioned multi-monitor-related settings disappeared, as the system no longer registers 2 monitors.

Hi. Here's the log file I get for trying to launch the game.
The taskbar shows TGM4 briefly (and disappear right after); no game window ever appear.

thank you so much for the updates! so good!

Planning WHD (widescreen) support (mid-term task)
can you please also implement support for 4:3 aspect ratio? I'm really enjoying playing on a CRT arcade monitor, but the forced widescreen layout has a number of issues, particularly around fitting both P1 and P2 game info on the screen at the same time.
Would Sega assist with keyboard control binding information from PC Puyo Puyo Tetris?
Regarding "Reviewing feedback regarding control feel and usability"::

Have you considered copying the way diagonal joystick inputs were handled in Tetris with Cardcaptor Sakura: Eternal Heart (テトリス with カードキャプターさくら エターナルハート)? Since that was a retail PlayStation 1 game, it must have had ways to deal with simultaneous U/D and R/L inputs.
Sakura was designed for 8 way input, while TGM was designed for a 4 way stick.

Puyo Puyo Tetris players want 8 way so they can hard drop and preserve DAS.
