TGM4EVER!
It is forced by TTC.

Damn it LOL. Well, I guess I'll retain a tiny shred of hope, not too much though. Thanks for the explanation.
Tetris.com web based tetris game is a good reference for this.

as you can see, it allows all controls be rebound. that said the mouse doesn't work inside of TGM4.
So i recommend that menu input outside of game mode always accept arrow keys, enter, and escape, in addition to anything else bound to ok and back. this should allow all game mode inputs to be rebound.
This is to accommodate WASD and arrow key/numpad users.
If you added wasd as a forced alternate bind, then you would be unfair to arrow key and numpad users, who may wish to bind a s or d to something else.
Also, PLEASE allow binding up to hard drop and 2nd CW to whatever. if you must, have it as a toggle in the rebind menu, so whatever is actually up will move up in the menu.
also implement cleaning on move right, move left, hard drop and soft drop. on all input methods. The current system of prefer movement to drop does work, but as i've stated, people will generally prefer last wins, and can use keyboard firmware/external software to get this regardless of what your game decides.
This is also the reason that the DAS preservation with frame perfect reversals should be removed, because it's trivial on everything that's not a stick that has it's own cleaning, which is all leverless, and many gaming keyboards.
What I found and did when I resolved my issue:
- (I am not connecting to 2 monitors. If you are connected to 2 or more monitors, you might want to disconnect some until you have one monitor.)
- go to system settings -> display.
- Check if the system still thinks multi-monitor settings should be dislayed - for me, it shows the thing to drag monitors around, and under "multiple monitors" or something like that, it gives me the option to choose which monitor(s) to display.
- I toggled the display from "display on monitor 2 only" to "display on monitor 1 only".
- screen goes black, then go back, with a prompt asking whether I'd like to keep my settings. After I click "keep", the aforementioned multi-monitor-related settings disappeared, as the system no longer registers 2 monitors.

Hi. Here's the log file I get for trying to launch the game.
The taskbar shows TGM4 briefly (and disappear right after); no game window ever appear.

can you please also implement support for 4:3 aspect ratio? I'm really enjoying playing on a CRT arcade monitor, but the forced widescreen layout has a number of issues, particularly around fitting both P1 and P2 game info on the screen at the same time.
Have you considered copying the way diagonal joystick inputs were handled in Tetris with Cardcaptor Sakura: Eternal Heart (テトリス with カードキャプターさくら エターナルハート)? Since that was a retail PlayStation 1 game, it must have had ways to deal with simultaneous U/D and R/L inputs.
Puyo Puyo Tetris players want 8 way so they can hard drop and preserve DAS.
