Most people when it first came out were completely unprepared for the genuinely creepy-looking animatronics, the unusual gameplay and the general feel of suspense.
Nowadays, everybody knows about the fox in Pirate Cove, Golden Freddy, the gameplay, and all that, so the tension is not nearly as thick.
You only get jumpscared if the RNG feels like it'd be funny - which is not often, unless you're unlucky - you die or you're extremely close to death.
