FNAF 2 IS A PREQUEL!
Okay, for all you people about to rage in the comments, read this.

1. The paycheck date states 11/12/1987 which clearly means Fnaf 2 happened around the Bite Of '87 and if it was mentioned in Fnaf then it HAS to be a prequel otherwise the Phone guy is a time traveling maniac.

2. The phone guy in fnaf 2 mentions about the "smell" of the animatronics (old) like in Fnaf which clearly means the 5 children murdered happened within the "Fredbear's Family Diner" time which I will talk about now.

3. The name of the "first" place was Fredbear's family diner. But in fnaf it is clearly stated as "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza".

Okay, now here's a chronological order of the fnaf series explaining.

First there was Fredbear's Family Diner, which featured the animatronics from fnaf 1. But due to the five children murdered, the place was shut down. It was then reopened (fnaf 2) and the animatronics were redesigned to be more kid friendly, but was then again shut down due to the Bite of '87. In the 6th night newspaper it states that the company will keep the first animatronics which will be redesigned one day for a new place. That place is the first game. They were rebuilt, and then came to the first game.

AND THERE! Hopefully that convinces you that Fnaf 2 is a prequel to fnaf.

Evidence that it is a sequel
In the Night 1 phone call, PG says "Welcome to the new and improved Freddy Fazbear's Pizza"
The first one was Fredbears. Then FnaF 1, then this one
PG also says "I'm sure you've heard a lot about the old location", the old location being FNaF 1.
He also says that the absence of doors is because of the new, modern, design. Also the new one can't run out of power. If it was a prequel wouldn't the building in FNaF 1 also never run out of power? The newspaper in night 6 of FNaF 2 says that they may reopen with a smaller budget, however.
The old animatronics is a big one. The old ones from FNaF 1 were used as scrap parts(mentioned in night 2 phone call), and new ones with all kinds of technology were built.
You can go read the phone call just to see I'm not making this up.
PG also says in night 3 how they tried to remake Foxy, creating the Mangle.
Also, in the night 5 phone call, PG says they are going to try to contact the original restaurant owner, the owner of Fredbear's. He says original, not previous.
There is so much evidence in these phone calls!
I know that PG "dies" in the first one. Maybe the FNaF 2 PG is supposed to be somebody else.
Also there is the 1987 thing. That is a big piece of evidence against it being a sequel. In the "you're fired" slip in FNaF 1, the year is just XX. We don't know when this took place. It could have been set in 1987 too. The month and day on the paychecks are the same though. If FNaF 2 was a sequel, then it would have to be set after 1987. Maybe the date on the FNaF 2 paycheck was wrong. Nobody knows. The PG in the first one could be talking about an event that happened at Fredbear's.
I think this is how the story went.
First there was Fredbear's Family Diner. This is where the bite of 87 happened. Foxy was the one who bit the kid, and that is why he was in disrepair. The company closed Fredbear's. Then there was the Freddy Fazbear's fron FNaF 1. The company didn't have enough money to fix Foxy, so they kept him in Pirate Cove and put up a "closed" sign. This is where the missing children event happened (before you start work there). The children were killed by somebody and stuffed into the animatronics suits. As it said in the newspaper, Freddy's did close. Then the pizzeria from FNaF 2 opened. The old animatronics were kept backstage for parts. The new ones were built with the extra security precautions because the employees suspected that people were killed by the animatronics. They were allowed to walk around in the daytime because of these precautions, but were still guarded carefully. That is why Jeremy was asked to guard the animatronics during the birthday party. After the birthday party for unknown reasons the pizzeria closes. The newspaper article says they will scrap the old animatronics but keep the old ones in hopes of repairing them and reopening with a smaller budget. I believe this is where FNaF 3 will come in. If you believe that FNaF 2 is a prequel, the newspaper article would obviously be pointing to FNaF 1.

Dear E.V. 2023 年 10 月 29 日 上午 6:32
Hello, I’m a English speaker, so I hope this translates. The Murder of the 6 children takes place between the years of 1983 to 1985, where it occurred in Freddy Fazbear Pizza, the same location of the bite of 87 where in that it’ll close down. It doesn’t make any sense why a single incident would cause it to close down when a grizzly case of 6 children mutilated wouldn’t if there wasn’t an ulterior motive. The bite of 83 would actually be the reason why the original diner would close down. This gives William an actual motive to drive Freddy’s name down due to what happened to his son. If Henry was in charge of supervising as well the marketing of the name, William was in charge of creating the robots which Henry would push too early resulting to a malfunction where William’s son almost dies. Knowing that the brand name is still alive at this point, due to Henry’s tenacity to make this successful, this gives William a reason to kill Henry’s daughter to slander their company resulting into the birth of the Marionette. It is likely this is where Henry and William would separate ways leading up to Henry’s creation of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza and for Afton, Afton Robotics. Sister Location using the same design philosophy as FNAF 2. Reaching out, William would still provide Henry his animatronics who unknowingly is making a deal with the devil. William Afton would create a facade working undercover as an security guard by the time of the opening of the Pizzeria, FNAF 4, either happening at the end of 1 or the end of 2. If it were 2, the nightmares of 6 days were actual premonitions of when William commits his murders, either being witnessed by Evan with head trauma or Micheal ridden with guilt. There the Missing Children Case would occur, resulting in the Pizzeria closing down again. Henry still a tenacious bastard, reestablishes the Fazbear name where William, now retiring as a security guard, gives him the Toy Animatronics, the original “corpse” suits still being their for some sick reason, in other words, borrowed parts. The Toys were actually crafted to become security robots where unknowingly, after the reestablishment, the possession of these animatronics would occur. William was the first to know that something were off given that he practically programmed them to the point he drives himself insane knowing that there can be life beyond death. Driven to insanity to the point of no return when he unintentionally yet intended the death of his daughter some time he created the Toy animatronics, via Circus Baby. The bite of 87 is well debatable, it’s either the act of William’s design to slander his partner’s name or some ghost kid really likes chewing on people. It closes down, the toy animatronics were scrapped, now the main 4 refurbished. Henry now dissatisfied would cut ties with William at the time of the reopening of the first game, or in other words, William doesn’t have access towards the newly possessed animatronics. Pissed, sometime in the events of FNAF 1 concluding with the mini games of 3, he breaks in, scraps the animatronics, hides in his spring locked suit, pushed into a corner, then dies, which would ultimately confirm and prove his theory, that “I’ll always come back.”
