Switch out to windowed and back to full screen and it'll stretch it.
I love the game but I still think the lack of support for more resolutions is a bit of a, "miss," as they say.
I'm not saying it's better than not being in widescreen. I'm saying because it's not in widescreen, keeping it the way it is would be better than changing it to fake widescreen.
Um......what does the storyline of the game have to do with the resolution??!?
Games within games exist. Look at the dot hack series as an example. It's not unheard of. As for the theory that it's because the game is based in the 80's, yeah, it's a bit of a stretch. It's certainly an interesting idea though. More likely it's a limitation of the game engine or something. Either way, it's altered without too much trouble whether you want it in wide screen with bars or full screen.
