Fake accounts; BE SAFE!

Hi everyone. I've made a few posts about this in the past but felt the need to make one that covers this subject a bit more.

I'm still seeing a lot of posts in the forums asking whether certain accounts are "really me". I also get emails from people asking if a person in a chat room is really me, or if a person sending emails is really me.

The answer is always no. It is not me. It will never be me. If you EVER see a person in a chat room claiming to be me, it's a fake. If you ever get an email from someone claiming to be me, it's fake. In the digital age it's almost impossible to prevent people from stealing other people's identities on social media sites. That's important to remember because it can put people at risk, especially young people. Anytime someone pretends to be someone else on the internet, there's a chance that it's because they are a dangerous person.

I will ONLY use Scottgames.com and the Steam forums to make announcements. My official Twitter account @real_scawthon, has zero tweets. I don't use it. It scares me that many fake Twitter accounts still have 1,000+ followers.

The point of this post is to tell you to be safe, and be smart. Even though I try to have fake accounts taken down, it's very difficult to do. Fake accounts can be created 1,000 times faster than they can be taken down. Any site like Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter that has an active user claiming to be me, is fake. Always.
