Anno 1404 - DRM Free
Game is DRM FREE. No Uplay, no TAGÈS, no Steam... yes, you can even run the game without the Steam client.

It comes with the latest official patches (also known as Gold Edition patch 3.1):
Anno 1404: 1.03.3650
Anno 1404 Venice Addon: 2.01.5010

TAGÈS was removed in patch 1.1: http://forums-de.ubi.com/showthread.php/23167-Patch-1-1-completely-removes-DRM

You will find two files named "TagesClient.dat" and "TagesClient.exe" in the installation folder, but they are residual files from the disabled TAGÈS drm. These files are also present in other games where TAGÈS was disabled, like The Witcher for example (http://www.gog.com/forum/the_witcher/tags_drm_in_the_witcher):

Yep the unofficial patch fixes some quest bugs and more, really worth it even for non-english versions.

Just want to confirm this - the game even starts without steam. Completely DRM-free.

Actually makes sense given the age of this game.. if only developers did this for every old game..

Can you register the CD key on Uplay for a second copy?

No.

1) Game was released before Uplay.
2) It was partly made by non-Ubisoft studio which almost never use Uplay.
3) Retail version was patched DRM free a long time ago.

Well, I might as buy retail then... Someone on eBay is selling a brand new unopened DVD case of the Gold Edition for £1.99 with free delivery, lol.

3,74 € on sale in Steam.
White Rabbit Dec 27, 2014 @ 6:53am
Yeah, but that's like £2.99. I'm not paying £1 to make my Steam game counter go up by 1, lol.

I just bought the Golden Edition, thanks for the information. Should I do anything in order to update the game to the 1.1, or is this not necessary? Thanks!
