TAGES DRM, how does it work?
So, I was very happy to see that Anno1404 is available again on Steam. But the fact it requires an additional DRM on top of Steam put me off immediately. Can someone tell me how Tages works, how it impacts the game, and whether there is a way to ignore it completely.
Cheers

IIRC it is part of the copy-protection. The first "The Witcher" had it, too.
Except for always needing to double-check if you have the latest TAGES-files for your system after a fresh installation, you probably don't have to worry about it.

So do I have to create some account for it, some form of online registration or so? Does it require me to log in every time I run the game?

Tages is no longer required for Anno 1404. After the update, Tages is gone!

So the Tages crap was removed from the game?

Seeing this game on sales, that was my first question too.
Steamshop still say it needs 3rd party DRM. Is the shop just outdated?

During the re-release the game had tages but later they patched the game and tages is gone!

Game is DRM FREE. No Uplay, no TAGÈS, no Steam... yes, you can even run the game without the Steam client.

It comes with the latest official patches (also known as Gold Edition patch 3.1):
Anno 1404: 1.03.3650
Anno 1404 Venice Addon: 2.01.5010

TAGÈS was removed in patch 1.1: http://forums-de.ubi.com/showthread.php/23167-Patch-1-1-completely-removes-DRM

You will find two files named "TagesClient.dat" and "TagesClient.exe" in the installation folder, but they are residual files from the disabled TAGÈS drm. These files are also present in other games where TAGÈS was disabled, like The Witcher for example (http://www.gog.com/forum/the_witcher/tags_drm_in_the_witcher):
