Game wont start Windows 10

Hi guys got a problem. I am using Windows 10 on a brand new laptop.
Just bought the Anno 1404 Gold pack but it wont start up (none of them, not the original or the Venice addon).
Also tried to re-install but wont work.
Also tried to start Anno with the Anno4.exe file in the Steamapp directory. But doesnt work either, got the following message: "file d3dx9_40.dll is missing on your computer".
Anyone a solution?

I have windows 10 as well. My problem is that I can start and play it but I get a black screen after a few minutes. First I could only play the venedic add on but now even there I get a black screen. And I can't even go back to windows (desktop)!

ADJ7777, just google that filename - it's a relatively common file error which I've not had with Anno1404 but have elsewhere. Download the file (if you choose the top result, though make sure it's just the zip file with the .dll in it, not some bizarre programme that will waste no end of time!).

It ought to go in \windows\system32 (as it's Win10, also put a copy in \windows\syswow64, which can't hurt). If it still doesn't work try putting a copy in the Anno1404 directory too (I remember that worked once for me though I'm still not sure why). Hope that's helpful :)

on a laptop, you might need to set the exe on using the graphics card, and play as admin.
be sure to get latest drivers.

on a new winx laptop it could be that only dx11 is installed, for older games you need dx9 too, so get that installed too, they can exist next to each other, no harm there

i have same problem. both games when i start to join it starts and in few seconds it goes back to desktop... anyone solve that issue??? i bought gold pack and installed both but both same problem

first time I installed both games on same time and as i read some forums that is wrong. i deleted both games and installed first classic 1404 and i tried to play and it works. than i installed venice and again dont work both. i again deleted but only venice and orginal game works. what is with venice????

Has anyone been able to get Anno 1404 to work on Win10? Had the same problem with Anno 1701 the other day, because the TAGES protection driver is only available for Win7 or older.

I use Win10x64 on Lenovo G50-80 and it works perfectly!

I have a problem too. I think it's related to the resolution. I can only move my mouse on the top left of my screen and the cursor is totaly displaced ... What can I do ?

Anno 1404 works flawlessly on Win 10 and there is no drm besides steam anymore.

gold edition for win10:
install ONLY anno 1404 first and run it. quit the game and install the venice edition. and you're all set up.

P.S you'll need to uninstall both versions if you already installed venice to make it work!

Ok I just installed the game and it doesn't work. I have no idea about how this whole file stuff works, so could anybody tell me what to do in an understandable way?

most laptops are incompatible for gaming or work on 3d modelling. even if u do, ur risking of overheating or damaging your graphics card. bare in mind most of laptops are weak n made for internet reading basically. before you buy any games u should read your specs and GPU compatibility with games online - this is very important. anno has beautiful graphics and demands on quite a lot of resources to run it properly, even though it is a strategy game. so yeah.. if you're having problems you'll probably have to contact steam for a re-fund reight away and go back to your starcraft or whatever u were playing before OR getting a gaming high performance laptop.
