not enough memory error - Anno 1404 Venice
I keep getting the error "you no longer have enough virtual memory to safely play anno 1404; please save game and restart anno 1404".
my system is:
Intel i7 2.4Ghz
8GB RAM
64bit
Win 8
at least 300gb free hdd space on C drive.

I have tried to increase the paging file size (inital size 10000mb and max size 20000) but I get the same error.
please adivse if anyone knows how to deal with this.

Thanks a lot!!!!

it seems the game is unable to recognize the size of free memory - I think is a bug or so.

@ OP I don't see that you have dedicated GPU. Maybe your iGPU doesn't have enough memory allocated. You might want to check this out in your BIOS.
This might be also the case with wiscoke, I don't know if the GT750M uses shared memory.

Another sollution might be is to try and run the game in compatibility mode for win xp or win 7.

These are to idea's that might be the problem. But in no way I'm certain of this. Sorry if this doesn't help.

Try this, just made video on it today, it fixed the game for me :)

For those (like me), who hate Videos which take 4 minutes of explanation for a 2 step solution, here's some good old text:
  1. navigate to the AppData Folder (usually: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Ubisoft\Anno1404\Config)
  2. Edit "Engine.ini":
    <DirectXVersion>10</DirectXVersion> <EnableTextureMemoryManagement>0</EnableTextureMemoryManagement> <EnableModelMemoryManagement>0</EnableModelMemoryManagement>

Download it, open the .exe and use it on the Anno1404.exe. It will increase the ingame memory from 2gb to 4gb and more. It is an 32bit game and a 64bit operating system allows these programms just 2gb of ram.

I'm a little late to this party but was looking for a solution to this problem and neither worked for me above. Unless I didn't do something right but I generally am capable of things like the two simple solutions presented above.

Try lowering the graphic settings. The problem only arose with me as soon as I put everything on max instead of medium (and no AA, ...)

Check if you picked the right .exe file. If you play the Venice addon, you should pick Addon.exe (I'm talking about @Naraksama fix). Fixing Anno1404.exe will do nothing in that case.

If you have dedicated GPU then make sure you force the executables (anno4.exe and/or addon.exe) use the dedicated GPU instead of itegrated one which is chosen by default, in my case it is in NVIDIA Control Center
