just bought this game and been playing for a while but i am bleeding money. I've got 1000 tax income but 1600 building maintenance. i can not sell my goods fast enough. and how do i evolve to noblemen. seems i am stuck with citizins. oh, i am playing on medium.

Spam houses and avoid having unnecessary farms, fishermen, warehouses etc. Also sell any extra products. From time to time load your ship with goods and sell them manually to pc players. And remember to increase taxes to yellow when your citizens aren't ready to advance or aren't just after the advance, and aren't in the stage of increasing number of residents.

What do you mean you are stuck with citizens? Have you provided everything they need?

well, i have patricians now. still bleeding money, but finally figured passive selling out. had to read de anno wiki. so every so often i have a big sell, but still can't manage to keep up with the Ai-players

As far as i know medium and hard AI in anno occasionally cheats. By that i mean they don't really care about cash, lack of tools, stone and so on. If they need to build something, they will build it regardless of having resources.

I might be mistaken but that's what i read somewhere and observed some cases which confirmed this
