Should i play the base game or Venice?

Just bought the Anno 1404 Gold... Should i play the base game, or the game experience will be much better if i play Venice? (single player only)

Base game has a campaign which acts as a tutorial. As soon as you're done with it switch to Venice for additional scenarios, ships, quests, cosmetics etc.

I agree. Play the base game first. When you are comfortable playing anno switch to venice. I would recommend the i.a.a.m. mod for venice. Better gameplay and much more design options for your cities
