I'm not even trying to tell him his game is bad, because I have no personal grounds to do so, only the word of several other people who have said to me it's a thankless grind and more or less prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt. I'm illustrating firsthand that the trailer is uninformative and all I see is a bunch of words and imagery, with no ensuing substance. I have no idea what the game is about, who any of the characters are, why the child is important or worth saving. It's just a bad and messy trailer. There's no two ways about it.
This is before I even talk of it's overbearing pretentiousness, there's no info, it's just a bunch of pretty tacked-together looseneck ties to nothing at all relevant because nothing is defined at all.
It's a nothing trailer, it tells me nothing about the game, the story, or the characters.
All I can make out is that the world is threatened by darkness and that there is a child you need to save and by golly you need to give me more info than that. Who am I? Their father, their mother, a mercenary aiding the child's mother, who are all these people shown?
It honestly looks like it was made by Degica and they had no idea what the game was about, rather than the developer who would or should be passionate enough about the game to tell me why I can like it too, in 2 minutes you could have introduced me to characters, highlighted gameplay features, and possibly lots of them, shown some insight into the world, instead it opts to sell people by looking nice and that doesn't work for cynical narcissists like myself, or anyone with more buyer's awareness than a customer on black friday.
You can blow me off, or learn. That choice is yours.
You're insulting a great game company for RPGmaker games. One of the best. Literally.
You're extremely lazy if you don't even bother to look up what this game is about.
Seriously. This is the most trolly, insulting, harassing message on a forum.
Even if the trailer doesn't have many action screenshots, you can easily look up this game via google and read/see enough of it.
I've been playing Aldorea games for a few years, they're great bits of fun.
Who cares if the assets aren't always 100% brand new.
You clearly have never seen any of their games before, you've clearly have no understanding of the basics of how these games work.
You know nothing of major websites that review things, don't even think of IGN, that's barely respectable anymore, and you think that's a valid complaint, which is absurd.
Finally, all these games on Steam are actually re-releases of games that have been out for a few years before.
The dev's official website lists a whole lot of games.
Sure, you have to be dedicated to the RPGmaker genre to enjoy games with the tile set.
But you are the most disrespectful person I've ever seen here on steam for these games, or any games.
Even That Dragon, Cancer is less full of jerks, and that had a lot of people who are literally worse than cancer.
You don't even know how to complain and give constructive critcism.
You make Hydorfloric acid look downright non-caustic, and that stuff is strong enough to etch glass.
Also, you don't know what Pretentious means, because you're far more pretentious than this game dev is. :P
Oh, and in full disclosure, the creator of this game is only on my friends list because I was honored he asked to be my friend. It also makes it easier to annoy him with questions he doesn't answer because he's too busy. :)

I'd no sooner trust triple A reviewers, but since I don't trust reviewers I've never heard of, it's essentially my own intuition I've used here.

Say's the guy who's responding to a four month old review. Be honest with me, were you just that bored or do you actually give enough of a ♥♥♥♥ about Aldorlea games to get so defensive about an opinion.

This is literally the only game I've heard of by the company, and the only reason I found this was because of someone telling me how gross it was in the first place.
Maybe I'll concede it's one of the best RPGmaker game-oriented companies that produces commercially, but at that point you're basically forced to condede that it's pretentiousness is very real, and it's pretty flabberghasting a game made in RPGmaker would have the guile to be anything beyond 5 dollars.

That is very much constructive criticism, if you can't see that, then you're blind or stupid, maybe both.
Or just maybe you were actually dumb enough to buy this game and now are really mad because you deep down feel like you shouldn't have but oh no, it's too late!
10 dollars isn't much for a game, but that people charge for RPGmaker games at all is pretty mind-boggling to me, if they charge 2 dollars or something then yeah, okay.
Then you have this guy charging five times that and then the manual for five dollars as DLC, which is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hilarious, and if you bought that too I gotta praise the developer because at least he did make money out of someone so obsessed with their own fidelity to a brand that they are bothering to accost someone who posted a review several months ago.

A trailer is where most will stop, if the trailer doesn't have much information, then oh man, guess what, people aren't gonna be interested enough to find it elsewhere.
In closing I'm not speaking on a solely subjective basis here, i've know several people who have bought this game and not at all been pleased with it, so I do actually know a fair bit of what I'm talking about. Also that you have to assume I'm a troll just because I have an opinion that differs from yours is incredibly juvenile.

I'm sorry, but I love the games by this company, and i know what bad games are like. This game is Triple A grade compared to many games on Steam.

Also, no one actually stops at a trailer, or even pays attention to it when judging a game.

Especially with how Steam defaults to muting trailers, which means you have to turn them on to have it speak.

Also, again, these games, while they do not appeal to everyone, are not terrible/bad, and have a good following of humans. :)

I had a brain tumor when O was five, I'm visiting a psychologist for mental help and I'm legally blind.
I could use my illnesses to justify or enforce things, too. But I don't because it's pathetic. Not to mention I have much more valid reasons for being here.
Okay, let's look at the word evil.
It's a subjective way to say someone is malicious.
Yet I've been reviewing, rudely, but nonetheless, taking time out of my life to tell someone about their trailer, not even the game, the trailer. It was despite the scorn-coated overlay, designed to help.
Please do iteriate for me how helping someone in a looseleaf manner is evil. You're just enraged because I have an opinion that differs to yours, and much as I don't believe you have the will to hold your tongue because you responded in the first place, it doesn't matter what you think of my opinion because you don't develop or work on the game, so should you cease response with me, I could care little.
Also if Aldorlea games had any problem with it they could remove / lock this topic, but they haven't done that, whether it's because they see some merit underlying what I say or because they are mature enough not to get butthurt over criticism, it's pretty showing of you to show up like a White Knight nobody even needs.

Fact is, this thread could actually be deleted if it was warranted, I know because some of the less civil topics I've made on the RPGmaker webs group have been deleted or purged.
So basically, you're the only one here with a problem. I don't have a problem with the game in itself and it's the devs choice to use or make a new trailer, much as I may not like it, but that's his right to decide on.

I have over a hundred and fifty games on steam alone and I've played plenty of RPGmaker ones, too. I've been playing games since I was 6 and I'm 27 now, so no. I'm pretty sure I have been around video games most of my life.
And most do, most will stop at a trailer.
This might surprise you but i didn't find this game on steam first. I saw the trailer on youtube a couple years back, thought 'meh', never looked at it again until i started hearing more about it, mostly that the game isn't that great or was disappointing.
My point exactly. If you don't deliver on a trailer you don't deliver, because as you helped point out, people are lazy, they aren't going to actively search for info after a trailer fails to grab them.
