Spriter Pro

Spriter Pro

Anime Studio Pro
How is this different from Anime Studio? I can do the same thing and more with Anime Studio Pro. It uses bones, rigging, and modular animation too.

I was wondering the same...I have AS Pro myself, but lately they've been slacking with features and the upgrade price doesn't justify what they added in the latest version...

From what I see in the video, you can disolve the bones in mid animation, like with that skeleton, don't think AS has that. And pixel art is another thing you can't rly do in AS.

A strong point of AS is the depth you can give animations (parallax) and how bones can deform anything while not pinching it. Not sure Spriter has that

I would say Spriter focuses more on charactercreation for games, while AS focuses more on charactercreation for use in animations you make inside AS.

Hoping someone here used both to decide if to buy Spriter Pro

I tried Synfig and Spriter Pro and had some reasonable results as a hobbyist.

The learning curve on Spriter Pro is pretty low. My biggest problem with Spriter Pro under Windows right now is the fact that the program becomes non-responsive at times. It can work for making animation builds fairly quickly, but I am saving constantly to avoid losing work. I emailed the dump files from WhatisHang to the developers and hopefully they will solve the problem.

With Spriter Pro, I basically use OBS for recording my outputs. (I opt for a basic 720P). You can also export the files as pngs and import them in Blender's video sequencer if you feel more comfortable doing it that way, but you will need to add audio sperately in the Video Sequencer. OBS, otoh, will pick up and record the audio once you set up a decent window grab.

Anyway, I used Spriter Pro for a few of the scenes in my video and then I used Synfig for others.

Synfig is free for 2d animation, but does not offer anything for game creation purposes. (A fork is apparently now in the works, but it will have commercial use restrictions.)

A new edition of Synfig came out. Recent reviews of the new Synfig suggest it is not for everyone. It takes a lot to get used to Synfig and the learning curve is steeper than Spriter Pro. I personally found myself getting more comfortable with the program as my project went on. It has direct out video capacity, but it won't export sound. This meant that I had to take those sequences over to the Video Sequence Editor in Blender to add the sound files to. Also, with the new release Synfig is currently in the process of developing new manuals, so the tutorials are a bit outdated.

I was pretty happy with the results of the project, though I did order a new microphone for recording because my current microphone was simply not up to the task.

I have not used Anime Studio, so I don't know how that works.
Anime and anything connected to Anime is nasty and evil, I would not accept Anime Studio if it was FREE.

Could you please give some more information besides just bashing it?
I have and use Anime Studio Pro 9 and love it. It has a learning curve, but it's amazing software that does a great job. I've done several professional animated cartoon series with it.

Trolling and anything connected to Trolling is nasty and evil. ;)
From what I can see (and recently posted about) was mentioned in your initial reply from Craray's post ~ "A strong point of AS is the depth you can give animations (parallax) and how bones can deform anything while not pinching it. Not sure Spriter has that".

Smart bones and dials. Though spriter is working currently on mesh solutions and sprite manipulation, the one thing I did NOT see what smart bones (dials), but recently got a response from the spriter team they are or will be working on something like this for a future release.
