Why is Ubisoft asking me for a product key when I purchased this on steam? Please help I don't know what to do.
Hi. I just purchased this Assassin's Creed II today but I can't play it due to Ubisoft asking me for product key. Where can I find that? I already paid Steam for the game but I couldn't play it. Help me please. Thank you so much!

Thank you guys for the reply. I refunded the game instead. I will definitely do as you say next time it happens to me again. :)

Hello!

I'd also like to add that if you still have difficulty redeeming your key in the future, you can try clearing Ubisoft Connect's cache[support.ubisoft.com]. This will resolve the issue for any games that should be activated automatically upon launch :)

All the best!

Are you implying that older Ubi games (that originally came with key codes, here on Steam; This includes many Assassin's Creed titles, older Far Cry titles, etc.) will no longer require those keys in order to activate them (& their DLCs)? will they solely rely on the "organic" & automatic Steam-Ubi client process for the initial license validation?

If the answer is "yes": Are ALL of the older games going to have their key codes removed? or will there be some exceptions?

P.S. The reason I asked about this is because I didn't play some of those games (that got key codes) yet. Never downloaded them, never installed them, never activated them. I hope they'll be instantly recognized by the Ubi client / launcher then.

Hey there.

Most Ubisoft titles should link automatically to the Ubisoft account you have logged in via Ubisoft Connect upon launching the game for the first time through Steam, though there are a few exceptions with older titles. Generally if Steam has given you a key after purchase it will likely need to be entered in Ubisoft Connect for first time activation, this article[support.ubi.com] explains the situation regarding direct entitlement games and how to check if a key will be required.

Either way whether it's direct entitlement or you require a key you should still be able to activate through Ubisoft Connect. If you do encounter any issues however please let us know. Cheers!

Thank you, Raziel! Apparently, I actually bought 2 more Assassin's Creed games (because it brings back so much memories lol and I really like the game) and followed dirtygerty80's reply and manage to find the keycodes. I was able to play the game without any issues. Should I happen to have an issue in the future, I will follow your advice on clearing the UC's cache. Appreciate your response. Have a great day to you and Orion!
