If this thread is still being monitored I would love a solution. It may say i have 50ish minutes on the game, but in reality thats just trial and error of me trying to fix it....
Unfortunately assuming you've tried the basics (run as admin, compatibility, dial up/down your graphics driver and/or package) and a the above spinning disk drive solution, and it failed, I don't have any further suggestions that I can verify would help.
I can only suggest you hit google, and avoid the ubisoft forums as they are mostly filled with denial. I doubt they officially support the game anymore.
If you can't get the game working, ask for a refund, but leave a review with your machine specs and configuration, detailing the issue as you experience it.
I'm sorry that you are having an issue with Assassin's Creed 2.
As the game was released in 2009, it may experience some issues running on modern hardware and OS.
Have you tried using compatibility mode with Windows 7?
You can find a guide on how to set compatibility here[www.ubisoft.com], if needed.
If compatibility doesn't work, please try following this[www.ubisoft.com] guide.
Please let us know if the issue persists.
Thank you very much.
