CONTROLLER ISSUES
Whenever I start AC2 from steam it opens uplay and then the game... and that's ok, but my controller no longer works, at least not properly. Solutions?

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with your controller.

Please ensure no USB devices are plugged into your PC except for you mouse and keyboard. Also make sure you have the latest drivers available for your controller.

If the issue persists could you please confirm which controller you are using.

AC1 and AC2 both have known issues with Xbox controller mapping and configuration.

You could try remapping using this method explained at PCGamingWiki[www.pcgamingwiki.com]:
  • Use x360ce (source[github.com])
  • A pre-made fix[community.pcgamingwiki.com] is available including support for vibration.

  1. Download the 32-bit (x86) version of x360ce[www.x360ce.com] and extract it to
    <path-to-game>[www.pcgamingwiki.com]
    .
  2. Run
    x360ce.exe
    and either configure your controller manually or allow the program to select a configuration. Select
    Save
    to save your changes.

  3. Close
    x360ce.exe
    and open the newly generated
    x360ce.ini
    file in
    <path-to-game>[www.pcgamingwiki.com]
    .
  4. Between
    [Options]
    and
    [Mappings]
    add, or replace, the following:
    [InputHook]
    HookCOM=1
    HOOKDI=1
    HOOKPIDVID=1
    HookName=1

  5. Save and close the file.

  6. The controller should now function correctly, but additional steps are required to enable vibration.

  7. Open
    x360ce.exe
    and select the active controller (Controller 1 by default) if necessary.

  8. Select the Advanced tab and enable
    Force Feedback Pass Through
    .
  9. Select the Force Feedback tab and enable
    Enable Force Feedback
    .
  10. Click Save and close the application.

Essentially, you've got to map the triggers in the Big Picture controller configuration page; in general for Steam games, that's the best way to resolve controller detection issues and adjust mappings.

You can also check the controller mappings from the Steam settings window:
Steam menu bar > Steam > Settings > (choose one of the following options)
  1. General Controller Settings
  2. Big Picture Configuration
  3. Desktop Configuration

Thanks for letting us know the controllers you've tried. Can you please confirm whether the keyboard and mouse controls work correctly? If you have an official Xbox 360 controller available, can you please test this as well, as that is an officially supported controller for the game? Have you also tried following the advice of R3troSim above?

(Thanks for helping out here again, R3troSim! It's much appreciated.)

CoggedOphanim, please let us know if any of the above steps and advice helps you as well?

I'm not sure, haven't got one to test. I would've thought so though.

I think you'll just need to test to find out.

Hello Neostorms, thanks for getting in touch.

I was able to get the game working with an Xbox Wireless controller, whilst being plugged in with a USB cable to my PC.

Can you please try the following >

In the Steam controller settings for the game, select Use Default Settings

Make sure the controller is connected to Steam via a USB wire.

Launch the game, in the games menu, select options > customize controls > then scroll the options available until you see your connected controller - you can then control Desmond/Ezio as well as the menu with just your controller

same issue here. before I was able to enable triggers using this guide and use my controller, but now the game won't even recognize my wired xbox one controller, and it works just fine for every other game I play.

Hello tanman1256, thanks for getting in touch with us.

Have you tried any of the controller profiles templates, either Steam templates or player custom profiles in the option?

Are you able to show us any screenshots or images from the Steam controller and Properties menu that show how you have this set up currently?

We can not advise downloading files or external programs from unknown sources to fix this issue, from the guides linked earlier in this thread, we can only suggest altering the Steam settings themselves as this was known to work for some players.

Ubisoft is the most garbage gaming company I have ever seen in my entire lifetime of playing video games and the most annoying part about spending my money to not be able to even functionally play the game is the doofus that works for this sleeze bag company replying saying that the in game controller settings works fine when you guys couldn't even bind the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ controller settings for a 15 year old game correctly how incompetent is your company

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Ubisoft is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous. ♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ company that can't patch the best game in the Assassin's Creed series, but no ♥♥♥♥ me for wanting to not have to do a bunch of stupid ♥♥♥♥ to make this game work on PC.

Of course these "developers" are from the garbage islands of the UK.
